Quincy Jones says Paul McCartney was the worst bassist he ever heard

If you consider yourself a musician you have to know of Quincy Jones!

I consider myself a musician and besides looking at this dudes wiki i still have no idea who he is outside of some Jackson stuff and reading the interview where he comes off like an old bag. There are a ton of different musical circles out there and I would never say you can't consider yourself a musician if you don't know some band I like.

Apparently he's won awards. So has Taylor Swift. Don't care.

Quincy Jones probably made most of his money as a film composer ( like John Williams of Star Wars, but not nearly as famous) and also as a producer of other people's music so he does have a lot of credibility.

This strikes me as an off the cuff interview sort of like Playboy used to do, and maybe they still do it where it's all just relaxed. The interviewer talks and then the person being interviewed talks. Honestly even though I'm a huge
Beatles fan I totally agree with QJ a lot of the Beatles early stuff was lacking in substance and musicality. Pop music is fueled by other things like personality and looks. The Beatles had a great combination of personality, looks and talent which gave them the opportunity to develop some nice music over time. QJ spoke his opinion and I almost totally agree with what he said.

Edit to add, it seems the Beatles worked extraordinarily hard during their time in the sun and developed their pop talent as far as they could, it worked out really great.

Also, I agree with QJ about almost everything else he says in the interview!

Sure there are better musicians. But they were the Beatles. They changed the world. Few even knows who Quincy Jones is anymore. Nuff said.
. He was relevant decades after the Beatles broke up. And for those dismissing him as an old fart who doesn't know modern music, take a look at the people he brought in a positive light, including guys like Bruno Mars.

Sure you're not just jealous he dated Ivanka? or knows who killed JFK?
Or knows who The Gloved One stole his hits from?

Quincy is madly accomplished, but I am with you to the extent that I can't whistle any of his tunes.

But some here presumably can? Curious.

Don't get angry with me but you should educate yourself on one of the most important people in the music industry.

What is he bitter about? He's had a long successful career working with top artists in multiple genres and has made millions of dollars in the process. Artist and labels sought him out. So because he gave an honest assessment of a new band not long from the clubs of Hamburg he's bitter?

Okay.
:D

I'm sorry, did I mention anything about the Beatles in my post? I read the whole article. He has plenty of negativity to go around. You may say what you like, but please don't put words in my mouth. Thank you.

Heard anything from Michael Jackson's "Off The Wall", "Thriller" or "Bad" albums? I guess we're at a point where people haven't heard any of them. Sinatra is probably going too far back, he did several iconic arrangements when Sinatra was on top.

Quincy was more known as a producer, writer and arranger than an artist.

He spoke of the Beatles aka the point of this thread :D. What did you consider him bitter about?

What this thread mainly proves to me that all our effort is ultimately futile. I say this because if a legend like Quincy Jones (and I don't particularly like most of his output, but I respect the hell out of his legacy) is dismissed as a "wanker" and "who is this guy" then ultimately what's the chance of any music surviving into future generations?

Sad that at the end of this guys life so many people have nothing but disrespect for him because he dared voice his opinion on things. This is, to me, a very damning indictment on the state of our world as a whole. Makes me happy I never really tried to "make it" in music. These modern snowflakes have ruined almost everything and sucked the fun out of many aspects of life. Now add Quincy Jones' legacy to that evergrowing pile.

Anyhow, just for his forwarding of the craft of recording techniques (with the help of his legendary engineer Bruce Swedein), Mr. Jones deserves much more respect than he's getting here.

Lots of different kinds of music out there man. Just because everyone doesn't love the band Portal I don't lose faith in music. Different tastes duder.
