If Quincy really believes what he is saying, he didn't have a clue what he was listening to, at the time.
So he wasn't allowed his initial OPINION?
Interesting (not really).

Not much to explain. It’s a goofy fun song song, easy to sing along with, sticks in your head and was written for a cartoon. What have you written? You had me up to the "quality of the song" statement. I mean how do you explain yellow submarine?????
That is a complete pile of crap.

Did you seriously just put The Cure and Nirvana in the oldies category? Man, now I know I'm old, lol. There's not one single person of any age I've ever met who doesn't know and enjoy bands like the Beatles or the Eagles. Or the Cure and Nirvana for that matter. It's just not their soundtrack like it was ours.
What is it with talented people having to crap on other talented people? It makes them come off as ignorant or douchebags.
I'll trust the editors of Bassplayer magazine over Q when it come to playing bass and they put Macca at number 3. It's not just about chops or some kid in his basement is better than Jaco.
Or he answered a question honestly... how dare he?
If you consider yourself a musician you have to know of Quincy Jones!Yeah, that's the way I read it too. And the subsequent butthurt was totally expected.
The ignorance of who Quincy is here is also not the least bit surprising... there actually seems to be some pride taken in it.
that's what struck me, too. i read the interview in the NYT or somewhere a couple of days ago. man, he's royalty, goes waay back in the american music world. i played the grooves down to the nubs on the Body Heat record. lot's of others, too. that interview just blew my mind. like you said, really sad. so disappointed. He's totally off-the-rails in this interview. Comes off as a complete nutjob. What the heck happened to Q? Has he gone senile? SAD!
That says a lot but.....whose the better musical artist. ......?..Quincy!!!!!!
The inescapable irony of this entire thread is that if you asked Sir Paul about his early bass playing, he'd probably agree with Quincy
So Q clarified his comments and said that was just his first impression, but Macca went on to be one of the most important and influential bass players in pop music? Or are you ascribing to him things he did not say and accusing me of doing the same? What does that have to do with the question he was asked? It wasn't a career retrospective.
"What were your first impressions of the Beatles?"
His first impression wouldn't take into consideration their careers for the next decade or so.
One of the funniest things here is how many expect a guy who wrote and played with Charlie Parker (if you also don't know who he is, ask Jaco ... heck, if you don't know who Jaco is, uncle ) to be impressed with an early 1960's rock/pop band. Think about that... or don't.
Okay, so you're saying I'm not a musician now? Great. If you consider yourself a musician you have to know of Quincy Jones!
