Returning basses to Guitar Center - Are they strict?

You have 45 days to return a new or used bass. They say nothing if the protective film or stickers are removed. Just bring it back looking as good as it did when you bought it.

I'm sure if you want to basically exchange the bass for something different they'd be even more okay with it. GC still gets the money. I'm thinking about maybe doing that if I do return the Mustang PJ.

The person I dealt with when I returned a synth that didn't work out was fine with doing a return (even though I bought it half way across the country), but was much more amicable about an exchange.

when i worked at a smaller mom/pop chain music store ... such crap, taking something home to play with , was considered " RENT " ... wanna bring it back after a little while ... then fine , you'll be paying the requisite up front , 2 months Rent & the non-refundable deposit ...! then the store would sell it as a returned Rental item ...

i don't know why folks think store stock is theirs to take home , slobber on for a while , then return with absolutely no charges ...!!??? why would i call that = BS ... mainly because , when i buy a NEW item , i want a new item - period .

Seems lots of folks have been enabled to act this way the last couple decades ..?? guess it's the only way the Big Box stores could make customers happy ... heaven forbid trying good customer care from well informed sales staff ..!!??

Maybe you'll like this instead.

Thinking about maybe spending the extra coin for an American Standard Jazz... I think I'm just wanting the clarity and flexibility that comes with a Jazz. The main thing that's holding me back is obviously the money and the playability of the 30" scale. I'm only about 5'6" with fairly small hands, so the the short scale makes the Mustang really easy and fun to play.

1. They think that because that is the store's policy. There will always be people that abuse policies but regardless the store accepts returns so you shouldn't be mad at the consumer for using the policies the store puts out there.

2. Pretty much every instrument in a guitar shop is used. I can't remember the last time I bought something from a guitar store that wasn't the exact model that had been on the wall for everyone to use. If I take a bass home for 2 weeks it will probably be in better shape than if it hung on the wall at GC for that same 2 weeks.

Back in the day, guitar shops didnt have a "return policy". If you decided after a week or two that the bass was too heavy, or you couldn't get used to the neck or some other form of buyer's remorse, you were stuck with it. Take out an ad in the local classifieds and hope someone in your area wants to buy it.

These days you can take a guitar back for ANY reason. About 3 years ago, I bought a bass from GC online. Turned out it wasn't for me. Returned it to my local store and gave them that very reason for returning it. Everyone was happy to refund my money.

I'm currently trying out a jazz bass I bought there. Being a flats guy, trying a bass in store isn't ideal. So I'm trying to feel this one out and make sure I really like it but I am curious how strict they are about returns. I know you get 45 days but what if the pick up stickers get funky or you put a small mark on top of the guard sticker? Anyone have some input?

Some people would call you a moron for not leaving the bass alone while in the grace period. Not me though, I just think you're incredibly rude.

I don't think this post is useful, nor necessary. Also, it is rude. The whole idea behind the return policy is to make sure the instrument does what you want it to do. It's your money. You don't have to settle. Take the gear home, play it, test it, and make a decision.

I would disagree. I think there is a certain protocol that is involved with making a purchase where the product can be returned during a specific amount of time.

He doesn't have a problem, at least he mentioned none.

He stickered and put a dent in it and now wants to return it.

That to my mind is rude, insensitive and abusing their policy.

Makes you wonder if he'll be the next one to complain about GC if they say NO?
