Returning basses to Guitar Center - Are they strict?

I would disagree. I think there is a certain protocol that is involved with making a purchase where the product can be returned during a specific amount of time.

He doesn't have a problem, at least he mentioned none.

He stickered and put a dent in it and now wants to return it.

That to my mind is rude, insensitive and abusing their policy.

Makes you wonder if he'll be the next one to complain about GC if they say NO?

He didn't put a dent in it. Reading comprehension is your friend. He said he put a dent in the pick guard sticker...you know the plastic covering they put over the pick guards? There's nothing wrong with the bass. He just isn't sure he likes it and asked a simple question to which you jumped all over him for it.

That's not my understanding from reading the OP. I think the sticker on top of the guard has a mark.

I know you get 45 days but what if the pick up stickers get funky or you put a small mark on top of the guard sticker? Anyone have some input?

Bottom line, IMO anyway, is if the bass is in the same condition as time of purchase and it's within the time period for returns, he's in the right. If not, then he's not. JMO.

I PM'd him an apology.

You were right.

What was wrong with the Jazz? Don't you know flats are for p basses only? (Kidding). But seriously though, you can't tell if you like it if it doesn't have your favorite strings on it? When I recently got a bass in the mail it had flats on it that i hated. (So we're opposites :p) but I could still tell I liked the bass regardless.

In your second example with the epiphone I totally understand though. Ergonomic issues can often be hidden until you've given it more time than in a store.

GC is great about their return policy. Keep the original strings, put on the flats, give her a try. Return in new condition within the 45 day trial period. No problem. If someone is not happy, too bad. That is their policy and a great policy it is.

Doesn't hurt to bring your strap when you plan on trying basses out, too (if you regularly play standing.) Sometimes they might give you one from behind the counter if you ask, but not always

Allot of people bash GC but this policy is one reason I go there. I have bought and tried out several basses and amps that felt or sounded good in the store, but left me flat when I got them to my place, band practice etc.
I'm sure there are a few folks who abuse the return policy but overall its great. As long as you bring the item back in practically the same shape it left in they ask no questions. Changing strings , removing stickers, or plastic films means nothing. They also will do this with used equipment as well.
