Sansamp Bass Driver DI V1 or the New V2 Model?

Resurrecting this old thread.
I had a V1 I bought back in the 90’s or early 2000’s , I still have it but never liked it. Muddy, mid scooped and clanky, were the opposite of what I was going for and it’s been in a drawer for years. Recently our sound-man recommended I try a bit of dirt on my tone, so I thought I’d try a BDDI again. I’m learning that the v2 is very different than the v1 and addresses the complaints I had?
on a side note, we did a show with Sponge, and he used the same rig, a D800 with a BDDI:)

I’ve never used the V1, but supposedly you can dial the V2 in to sound just like it with the mid knob on 10, so the V2 does have more control and more mids than the V1, however it’s default sound is still sorta scooped/clicky. I think it’s designed to emulate a mid scooped SVT with the high and low buttons pushed in.

If you want a more natural midrange, you might prefer the VTDI. Same basic concept, but more of an SVT without its mids scooped out. There’s also a bite button on it that’ll add/remove attack/click.

With either option, you can add mids/clarity by blending more clean DI with the emulated sound.

Alternatively, a distortion/preamp pedal in front of the D800. Only word of caution (since I’ve experienced this) is the soundman will need to EQ your channel to simulate speaker roll off, otherwise you may end up with a lot of ugly highs going through FOH. Since I was always working with different soundmen it was a source of frustration for me, and the reason I bought a BDDI.

So I snagged a BDDI v2 here on TB….playing it at home into a GK mb112 I use for practice. So far I really like like, big bold tone, adds sizzle and bite. It does seem very flexible and a few knob twist yields different results…..what settings do folks use? I’m using a Stingray Special, which compared to a passive, also has different results at the same settings.
