So...Has anyone here actually beat GAS?

If you are getting paid to play then you are well ahead of the curve! For me this is an expensive hobby / mental condition

I'm a weekend warrior, its working so far. Not that I don't think about (read: drool over) nicer basses, I do. But i just remind myself it wont make me a better player , and save my money for when I NEED it.

Yup. There was a late 50s/early 60s Kay on CL here last week for $500 and I realized with three electrics, a baritone guitar and an upright I don't need another bass even though I've been Jonesing for an old Kay like that for 20 years.

Not bought owt for a year, but in the previous four went from one bass to twelve, but I'm always looking.

GAS is like a case of Gout, it goes into remission but I have flair-ups from time to time. Maybe like a bad case of Herpes.

There was a Squire PJ for sale this weekend on CL for $200 Canadian with a Dimarzio 1/4-pounder P-bass pickup and a Bartolini Jazz pickup in it and despite wanting a P-Bass in my arsenal, I stayed home and dug out the compost pile.

It was close enough to walk over and have a look too, and I easily have the $200.

Do I need it though? No I don't.

I have a Fender J Bass, two Japanese J copies and an upright.

No GAS for me, except natural gas. My 2 I have do everything I need them to, sound great, and play fantastic. Why look elsewhere? I'm covered.
