St. Vincent tour gear?

For those interested and not on Instagram, here’s the pedalboard:

Peterson Strobo Stomp HD
TC Spark
Boss OC-2
Way Huge Pork & Pickle
Xotic BB Bass Preamp
Xotic BB Bass Preamp
Way Huge Pork & Pickle
Empress Phaser
Providence Anadime Bass Chorus
Malekko Diabolik
Ibanez Modulation Delay (looks like a DML-20)
Line6 Verbzilla
Eventide H9

I assume JMJ is busy touring and whatnot, but if he does check back here I’d like to know the different settings for the Pork & Pickles (is one a Pork Loin setting, one a Pickle setting?). Too hard to tell in the pic.

Howdy, all.

I use one P&P for a very light OD and the other one down the line for fuzz. One BB is staged for slightly more OD, then the other is a much heavier OD. Diabolik is used alone for its typical Diabolik sound, and combined with one of the four gain stages preceding it, for varying levels of chaos. Basically from the TC Spark then going left, it's progressively more gain, dirt, fuzz, chaos. And combining for me has always been key. Spark is used to level out the Mustangs and Starfire to match up with my Grabber, P-Bass and Hofner Club.

And here's my quasi-rant: people are currently blowing up my insta asking for specific settings....literally dozens of DM's, more every hour it seems. Alas, they are just shouting into the void and their messages will go unanswered. I've never understood that kind of query, especially for something as basic as a Pork & Pickle or a Bass BB. If you cop someone's settings, that ish changes the second you use your own bass, your own amp, and a different environment. So out of principle alone, I'm not sharing settings because 1) I'm firmly of the belief that it would be useless 2) It's like, FFS: just use your ears and mess with stuff. No one ever showed me a damn thing in all the years I was coming up, nor did I have YouTube tutorials showing me how to plug in a f'ing cable or whatever. Sheesh. That's all I got.

I'll grab some other pics later, or do an Insta run through perhaps. Always down to share other info, you know me.

Truthfully, posting how you use them, the strategies/goals you are going for is WAY more helpful than saying “this knob is @ 2:00 and that knob is @ 9:00,” for the exact reasons you describe. Thanks for posting that. Hope the tour is going well!

Not sure if your quasi-rant was semi-directed at me in anyway in regards to the previous post but to clarify I wasn’t asking for the specific settings of each pedal, just if the Pork & Pickles were being used as Porks or Pickles (I’m also not blowing up your DMs)

I’m also in total agreement with you that asking for specific settings on something like drives & fuzz is pointless (some of those advanced reverbs, delays or modulation I think is a different story as it could take literally weeks to get to know the pedal and delve into all the different sounds if you’re trying to get one specific tone)

Thanks again for posting. Your posts (as always) are a wealth knowledge to TB. Hope the tour is going good/is a lot of fun!

Wasn't directed at you, you weren't asking for settings the way I'm describing.

The only time someone else’s settings did me any good was when a couple folks did deep dives on the VT pedal and found near flat. That’s the only time. Good rant. Not as good as when you went off on tweeters on Ampeg’s FB page, but a strong effort that needed to be said.

Hey @jmjbassplayer, I caught the St. Vincent show in Nashville last night and was blown away. Really great performances all around; Annie is a genius. Bass tone was beyond on-point all night.

I wanna brag on the venue for a second, Ascend is one of my favorite places to see a concert ever, I hope you enjoyed it as much as me and my pals did!

Thanks a lot Jeremy, that was fun as sh*t. You caught the band in a particularly loose and fluid state. We're starting to fire on all cylinders, I think. I feel very grateful that Annie has given me a lot of latitude to help design the musical presentation as much as she has. As you saw, it's kinda tastefully muso, weirdo/art damaged, sensitive/poignant, and rock show freakout all in one. Seems like it's getting to a pretty good balance.

As far as the Ascend, yeah: Beck was there in '18 and told me how rad it was, and now I get it. Oddly had never been through there myself. What a spot.
