The rivalry between Missouri and Kansas goes back to the days even before the civil war and is still around to some extent...you know, the Missouri Compromise and Bleeding Kansas, brother fighting against brother, etc. Most people younger than 40 years old aren't aware that the war basically started in Missouri which was simmering between Missouri and Kansas for a decade before it went full blown. Within 30 miles of where I live are 2 Civil War battlefields where skirmishes were held but one almost never hears about them anymore. Most were caused by cross border guerillas.

I mostly just love the Simpsons, but I gotta admit that my knowledge of antebellum America is woefully lacking, so thank you for this.
