Texas Bassist Club!

I run a jam every Tuesday night, 8:30, at The Cottage Lounge in Dallas. Drop by - We can always use more bass player; I can always use a break ;-)

Seriously seriously great house drummer, jam attracts decent talent - Here's a clip from last month w/me on bass, house drummer, friends on keys and percussion and a talented guitarist/special guest:

Well I’m not able to devote that much time at the moment. Your band playing at icehouse in the next month or two?

That’s weird. When I was there I thought the crowd was too loud. The only decent place was outside with the band on the deck.
Problem is since Styx opened, developers completed a subdivision up hill across the creek on the deck side. Sound travels further and more effectively uphill. We kept a lid on it, but many didn't; The venue just didn't want to deal with it anymore.

I have two gigs coming up in Georgetown. Nov 9 and Nov 16 and I believe we start about 7pm for both. The first one is at a brewery called Barking Armadillo, the second is at San Gabriel Park. Both events are to honor veterans. Come say hi, would love to meet my fellow TBers.
How was yesterday’s gig? Sorry I couldn’t make it. And what's the band’s name?

Hey Miles, thanks for asking. We had a great time. A couple of hiccups here or there: an acoustic guitar died mid-song, and the drummer got a cramp halfway through the 2nd set. He's in his 70s, he's entitled to a cramp once in a while. lol. The owner liked us and wants to get back in there more often. It's a tiny little outdoor stage with a nice seating area. The crowd had fun, and the beer was great.

The name of the band is the Renegades.

I want to start a punk/thrash jam band called Frantically Thrashing About. Likely a four piece, possibly with multiple bassists. We'll play one gig, clearly lost the whole time, and implode spectacularly - possibly on stage, possibly afterward. Should be a blast.

Gig report:
We did the Georgetown Rotary's Field of Honor event last weekend. We donated our time and coughed up the money to get a sound guy in to help us. We were willing to do this event for free because there were major donators attending and we hoped to garner some nice gigs from it.

The organizers were, well, not organized. They couldn't keep to a schedule, kept interrupting our set every few songs to make announcements, hand out awards, etc. We had a schedule, they just couldn't keep to it. Kinda frustrating as we just stood by while they did their thing. We were supposed to play from 6-9pm, with one scheduled event midway through. That didn't happen. We finally got started about 7:30, but by 8:15, and I kid you not, they were packing up the chairs and tables and kicking the attendees out. So, we just stopped playing and called it a night.

It would have been a complete waste of time except we had so much fun playing together. Great group of guys to hang with.

Here's a snippet.

Yikes! Just as well we couldn't make it - we would have been there before y'all finally got to play!
Sorry it was such a mess.
Cool playing!
