I couldn’t find a HC-IEC, but I found a HC-4IEC.

It's been a long time !

-Small pedalboard is finished, I received the Oracle and I love it !

Big pedalboard :
-I sent back the MP12 power supply to DESS. They changed the ground isolation technology and I was having some cumulative buzz with the previous one. I should receive it soon.
-I will get the Noble in the next 10 days or so. Finally !!!
-I am currently doing some research regarding the power cables that I will use beneath the pedalboard. I'll be making my own cables with Furutech connectors. The first one going between the power patchbay (DESS HC-IEC) and the power supply (DESS MP12) and the second cable between the same patchbay and the Noble.

It should be entirely finished in the next 2 to 3 weeks ! I can't wait !!

Hi everyone !

Many updates :

I received the Noble. It is amazing !

Yes, again ahah.

I received back the MP12. I still have some buzz, but much much less. DESS has sold several hundreds of them and he has almost never had any buzz issue on them. I visited DESS last week end. Our conclusion is that the Slö and especially the Microcosm do not like the power supply. I purchased a Cioks DC7/8 expander combo that will come next week. It should solve the problem permanently, although I originally wanted to keep everything from DESS.

I finished the power cables beneath the pedalboard. Stunning. Clearly amazing. On top of feeling high end, the power cables are double shielded, which helps containing any potential electromagnetic pollution from the 230V current.

I also rewired a good part of the pedalboard :
  • I sold the Vulcan XL and replaced it with an MBD from Damnation Audio. Simply Amazing. (thanks @Erithon for suggesting this amazing pedal)
  • Drive is now AFTER compression.
  • I moved the pedal around so that The Pill is now alone in an effect loop
  • Patchbay is wired as follow :
  1. Main effect loop IN
  2. Main effect loop OUT
  3. The Pill IN
  4. The Pill OUT
  5. The pill Trigger input
  6. Noble DI OUT
This way, I can put The Pill before/after my effects or leave it completely out of my audio signal chain if I don't use it (which I prefer since it appears to be a sensible pedal too that doesn't like being last in the audio signal chain).

Next steps :
-Test if Cioks DC7 and 8 expander kill the buzz. If so, I ll install them instead. If not, I ll keep the MP12. Bot ways, I will finish attaching zip ties around the cables.
-DESS's pedalboards are modular and allow you to mount an IEC chassis on the left or right panel. But I use a patchbay, so I am left with 2 holes on the side panels. He custom made some covers for me which I will receive next week.

After that .. I am done. After more than 2 years of research ! I can't wait.

That's it. Two years of research to put together what, to me, it the ultimate bass pedalboard.

Last update : 2 effect loops on the same board.

I can't believe I am finally done with it. Not a single buzz, at whatever gain/volume position. Crazy. Is it the best possible pedalboard to you too ? What would have you done differently ?

Big congrats on finally finishing your journey! You put a ton of thought and effort into it, and it seems to have paid off wonderfully. Nice work all around; it's super tidy, and very well laid out.

To answer your question "Is this the best possible pedalboard to you too?", well, it clearly is the best one for you! But for me? I suspect not. I could happily plug into this, and probably make some fantastic sounds; there are a lot of incredibly high quality (and well-regarded) pedals on your board. But a number of your choices wouldn't work for me, either in terms of their sound/features, or the order you've chained them up. And that's ok! Everyone has very specific tonal goals in mind, and a pedalboard is simply a reflection of that. For example, the Microcosm looks like an AMAZING piece of gear, but I just don't have the need for that level of ambience/soundscape generation in my music. I would either severely underutilize it, or simply not use it at all.

I happen to find my pedalboard just about perfect for my needs, and yet I'm sure you or someone else would look at it, and conclude that I've made some odd decisions, which simply don't work for your needs. And that's ok, too!

Regardless, it was a lot of fun to watch your build come together. So again, hearty congratulations on completing your pedalboard. May it bring you lots of musical joy!

Curious about what the pill pedal is, and why it's in its own loop.

Board is sweet. I've had many of these pedals before and they're great. I think the phaser side of the Ripply Fall is probably the weakest link on your board, but the chorus side is gorgeous.

I've split my board into two — one for the cover band, and then an extension I patch in that has stuff for the synth stuff I do with my wife. I know you also have the small board. Ever have anything you want to swap in from one to the other?

Congrats! The board looks real snazzy!
I know how much time, effort and fun it takes into building the ultimate pedalboard (and $$ for sure).

I've done one for myself too. It took over a decade of live playing and testing tons of pedals to finally putting together the pedalboard where every single pedal is the best choice for me. I've started picking out the best of the best sometime last year and I've finally chosen my lot where I make zero compromises (including the best patch cables and power supply). I had a few rules - no MIC pedals, everything pedal needs to be a boutique brand, no bright colors and my low row needs exclusively top jacks. Might sound silly to someone but it's my little pride and joy. :)

Now have fun with it!

Update :

The Pill was a noisy pedal, which led me to have 2 effects loop on the board.
I recently moved to the 2024 version of The Pill, which is awesome : The Pill - Ducking Effect Pedal

But I like the idea of having 2 loops !
Let’s use that idea differently and have the Noble in the loop instead :

  • Loop A : All my effects : Tuner > Eq > Envelope filter ( Send - Octaver > Fuzz > Chorus - Return) > Compressor > Distortion > Reverb > Delay > Ducking compressor
  • Loop B : Noble Preamp
Both loops go to my patchbay. I can play :
  • Bass > Noble > Amp
  • Bass > FX > Noble > Amp
  • Bass > Noble > FX loop > Amp
If you like complex routing, there is one I particularly like in order to have both the Wet and Dry separately :
  • Bass > Noble :
    • XLR Output goes to a mixer (DRY)
    • Jack output goes back to the FX loops, then to the mixer (WET)
And again, the pedalboard looks stunning.

Future updates ?
I might change my microcosm to a black one, and I might change the colors of some 3 Leaf pedals, like the Doom 2. I love the Gray one !
