Interesting.... I've bought four or five sets since I got into them two and half years ago, no issues hereThat’s what I want but the only time I tried them they rusted almost immediately and I have never had that happen either any other strings on any bass… maybe they were older ones? I’ve read about that after my experience.
I think p basses work well in B, they just don't have that modern chunk. Casadys too. I play a P at church and it sounds great

I converted this to BEAD a month or 2 ago. Love it!
While a solo P setup might not be the most ideal platform for BEAD, so far im rather happy with my results from my mm cutlass with dogal jaco flats. Trad w a slice of modern, and the dead spot went poof w/o a g string.
Thanks dog

The first few times I saw reference to EBCF I thought it was a bizarre tuning. It’s fine, in reality I think I like the good ol plain XLs just fine. I have TI jazz flats on another P bass, in another tuning… of which we cannot speak of here.

Has anybody replaced the nut for BEAD tuning? My Schecter Raiden has been tuned in BEAD, EADG and DGCF throughout the years. I'm considering a set of 65-145 D'Addario strings for BEAD to replace my current 65-130 Rotosound strings and I'm concerned that the 145 will be too much for the factory nut.
I believe the nut width on this bass is 1.496", which is what Schecter has used on most of their four strings for years. This bass came equipped with a Graph Tech TUSQ XL black nut from the factory; that's probably what I would use to replace it, but I need to know if I need to be concerned about the nut slot width for that massive 145 B.
Or should I just try and file out my current nut slot to see if a 145 will fit?
Sincerely,
Undecided and looking for answers
The fatter strings - especially the B - sat up too high on my bass until I filed the nut.Ok...I may be a heretic here...
But I've never modified a nut when going to BEAD from EADG.
Maybe I've just been lucky but the bigger strings have sat fine in the nut slots and the setup seems fine.
YMMV
Got pics?I have joined the club. Not only joined, but jumped in fully. After converting my thunderbird I am now converting my beloved RS Guitarworks P Bass. I've been a five string player at heart for most of my life, but I find I am more creative on a four. Could never find the best of both worlds until now.
