I'm sorry, I'm not sure what salty )means. expensive?) I can't currently afford either, but I don't mind spending $s on good instruments. Iv played 6str since the 70s, I still own a LesPaul custom, a 335, a Gretsch white penguin (which is a stellar instrument), + a few quality acoustics.
I was hoping the Gretsch Bass's, were as good as the Penguin I own. Anyway, thanks for your input, I'm still a 'newbie ' with bass stuff. This old dog, slowly learning new tricks.

The G6073 I was looking at in Australia, had sperzels fitted too. Iv ruled out trying to import from US, that would be over $3,000 aud with freight and import duties being a third. (iv now learnt NOT yo quote models, the G6073 I missed was sold to overseas buyer, from TB I would think)
Iv just got a 34" , my first, and will see over next few months which scale suits best, before I get a Gretsch...

Hey!

If this is breaking the rules - apologies but wants y’all’s advice. I’m hunting for a hollowbody and specifically the Hofner sound but I hate playing Hofner’s.. the string spacing and toy like feel of the instrument is frustrating for me.

Every Gretsch I’ve played was a gear instrument. Can a 6073 or a 6119B with a good set of flats get me close? I’ve had a few 6072 MIJ reissues and although awesome they felt like a very different monster. I’ve always attributed that to them being long scale.

Thoughts?

I have a 6073 and i love it. i also have a '67 6073 but IMO, the newer one has a nicer feeling neck,

Any thoughts on comparative analysis to a Hofner?
When I was looking at second hand Gretschs, I found a 5422 DCB , in a pawn shop, the bridge had been changed to an ebony bridge (like a Hofner). It definitely shortened the sustain (like a hof), if u also changed pick ups to Hofner, that may get u there. ??
I own a Hofner, when I played the Gretsch with the wooden bridge, it did make a big difference, instantly made me think of my Beatle bass..
