The Official U.S. Peavey Cirrus Club

Interested in your opinions.

I have a 5-string Claro Walnut Cirrus. I got a good deal on it and thought it would be a great way to test the “fiver” waters. But I haven’t taken to playing the five string and there is a wenge 4-string near me that I know would see more playing time. That said, I probably won’t find a nicer Claro fiver if I pass mine on. I’m not interested in having both, no room and no $$.

Would I be making a big mistake flipping the 5 for the 4? The Cirrus 5 seems to have an iconic status, I hear less praise for the four. Will I miss having the 5th string for the music one would use a Cirrus for?

Your thoughts? Thx.

Less praise for the 4? I personally haven't heard or experienced that myself. Both are excellent, it just depends on what configuration you prefer. I prefer 4 strings. But that's just me.

Four string Cirrus is an awesome bass. 35” scale 19mm string spacing.

All the five string basses I’ve owned are gone. Only four strings in the stable now.

You could try stringing it E-C and see if that makes more sense for you.

But a Cirrus you play over a Cirrus that you aren’t bonding with? I’d trade that out in a hot second.

False alarm…the four-string is a fretless. Not what I’m looking for. I told the seller to list it here, maybe it’ll pop up. It’s a beauty!

If anyone has a really nice (wenge or Claro walnut preferred ) 4-string and wants to trade for a five, let me know, I’d be interested.

Hey Cirrus Gurus! Got a question or two. The bridge on my Cirrus 6 has some oxidation where the bridge meets the body and on the saddles as well. Can this be cleaned off? If not, does anyone know which Hipshot bridge I can get to replace the current bridge? Any help is appreciated! See pics for reference.

The bass I was speaking about above just showed up in the classifieds for $1k. Great deal, beautiful example of a fretless Cirrus 4.
Not affiliated with the seller.

Just a FYI: the Hipshot model A is not a direct replacement. You will need to drill new mounting holes. I mounted mine with the front of the bridge 1" from the flat part of the rear pickup and it was still a little too far back. The next one will be 7/8"

There is a bridge that mounts into the same screw holes, I’ve got one somewhere. Same manufacturer as the original, but not the same bridge, slightly smaller. I’ll see if I can find it and let you know what it is. Mine is black vs. gold, I was going to “blackout” my Cirrus, but never got around to it.

Um, I don't want to drill new holes. There's some Cirrus bridges on ebay, but man are they pricey!

The manufacturer was/is ABM. There is a black, aluminum, 5-string one in the classifieds now for ~$63. I’m pretty sure an ABM will drop-in (no drilling). It is not a direct replacement though, it is a smaller footprint than the original.

@jimmyfwl If the bass in question is a Tiger Eye (looks like it) it probably came stock with some version of a Hipshot style A. Mine certainly did. All of the other Cirrus production models came with ABM bridges.
