I was very sorry to hear of Olafur's passing. I have had dealings with him over the years, and always enjoyed the exchanges.
Please keep me posted!!! I may see you on the 10thHi all, sorry for the late reply.... Olafur's Brown U, friends & his work colleagues are having a memorial service Nov. 10th., with the blessing of O's family. This won't be a music event. But, I and several of Thor's musician friends still want to have a memorial Jam session sometime next year. I will keep you posted on that event. If anyone locally is interested in attending the memorial service November 10th, you can certainly stop by. I don't know many of his school buddies, but his wife Katherine will be there, along with his son Stefan, and possibly his daughter Erica. And, I will be there of course.
Paul, is the contact for this service. You can call or text him @ 401-474-7443, for more details. It will be at Dunn's Corner Community Church, Westerly RI. Service at 3pm, and catered reception to follow in the church hall.
Again, I will let you know about our future plans for a big music celebration for our friend Big O. Peace, R
What kind of liver disease?I wish I had kept up with him more after he was diagnosed with liver disease in April.
Olafur always had a genuine passion for this community. His emails to me were usually about bugs needing to be fixed, or letting me know his supporting membership check was in the mail. He would even send me little gifts at Christmas. His love for TB came through in his dedication to his mod duties and providing valuable input in many tough situations.
What a loss. I wish I had kept up with him more after he was diagnosed with liver disease in April. Talking with the mod staff about possibly doing something for the family.
Thor is one of four people I know that was born on Feb 29th.
I hope he can see this thread and know I'm thinking about him today.
I still regret that we never met in person when he traveled to Rochester on business.
Same here. Didn't have alot of contact with Thor, but I noticed how encouraging he was, including to me in a few instances. A real credit to TalkBass.I was reading an old thread where Thor posted and saw "in memoriam" and came here.
