Trace Elliot Elf 2x8 cab

I'm curious about what's inside the cab but don't want to open it :P not until the warranty voids.

I took a closer look to the specs sheet that came with the elf 2x8'' and there it states that they are 16 ohm each.

Weird cab or broken meter... I vote for the last one :)

I have 2 of these cabs. I powered them with a Quilter Bass Block 800...bass heaven! My keyboard player (who has 2 QSC 10" self-powered cabs @ 1,000 watts each) had the audacity to tell me my rig was too loud, even running the Bass Block at only 160 watts. The sonic purity of the Bass Block through the T.E. cabs was unbelievable! Unfortunately the amp really was overkill, so I took it back and bought a smaller (wattage-wise) amp. Even at only 350 watts, the cabs KILL!

Looking at getting two of these cabs due to portability. Currently have the Peavey 2x18 1x15 combo cab which is insanely heavy.

How do you feel these would hold up? I enjoy my current tone, but my back hates my current cab. My other idea was 2 of the SVT 2x10 AVs. Added advantage of ear height sound and no comb filtering.

You should have no problem using your Peavey amp with the ELF bass cabs. However, they are only 10.25" wide, so your amp will probably hang over. I had the same problem with a Rumble 500 head, so I found a used Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0. It fits perfectly on top of my stack. I recommend the Quilter Bass Block 800, because you can bypass the front panel EQ by running the output of your dUg Pinnick right into the input on the back panel. If you've read any of the other posts, a lot of bassists are doing that, which bassically (pun) turns the Bass Block into an 800 watt power amp.

I think you meant 2x8 + 15 combo cab, should be roughly equivalent in ouput, maybe a little more with Elf stack and Tour watts @ 4 ohms.

Since the 2x8s are 8 ohm (stock) I should be able to run 2 of them (in series) at 4ohm with no issues, correct? Eventually I may get a lighter more convienent head to go with.

Thanks all

Daisy chained or parallel is 4 ohm. Good to go.

If you actually went to the trouble of series cabling you would be getting 16 ohm. Some people do that with the very powerful Streamliners to get the output overdrive without so many watts.

Had a chance to give the Trace Elliot ELF 2X8 a workout today at a GC. Used the Elf head. ESP 5'er.
Bottom line: For 4 stringers only, IMO. Commendable job, but would use two to get the job done, unless it's a jazz trio or acoustic gig. Quiet full band rehearsal = okay.
Anything below low E = Blurryville. Not "5 friendly". It would not at all like my Smith BSR5.
Sidenote: really dig that ELF head. If I didn't already have a GK MB200, I'd go there.

Here are the driver specs of the Faital 8PR200 which is whats in the TE 2x8 cab.
I wouldn't expect anything more than the specs.
For the record these are awesome drivers.

I suppose I should update this thread so just to recap I had a professional speaker reconing service perform the modification on the stock drivers they used OEM parts that had to be shipped over from Italy. I've been using this speaker reconing service 4 over 30 years

I've been using this cab at 4 Ohms for months now and just like I stated before there's not a big difference with the elf head but with a 500 watt micro driving the amp the difference is insane the amount of Wallop this cab can dish out is utterly amazing this is the best money I've ever spent on a Gear modification in my life.

I use this as a single cab solution with a 500 watt micro and I can be as loud as I want to be in any band situation whether front of house or no front of house this cab will take a freaking wallop it's possibly the best bass cab that's ever been built and I understand that can be considered hyperbole

So I pulled one out and looked its the Faital 16 ohm 8PR200.

For giggles Im going to try an 8 ohm set of these to drop the cab to 4 ohms to goose the amp headroom a little. I've always wanted to try this type of experiment so I'm going to do it. I may fail miserably but I will report back.

Looking at the specs on these I don't see why the speakers wouldn't handle the juice they look to be pretty darn robust and the amp is a Max of maybe 200 W and it's got a built-in compressor so it doesn't slam very hard it's a lot stinking louder with a 4-ohm load I do understand that's also additional speaker cone area but I want to see what it'll do to drop this thing to four into this one cab. Inquiring minds want to know.

Also for those that would like to know this cab appears to be manufactured like a brick outhouse the quality is outstanding.
What are the cabinets made of? Are they plywood or mdf?

Awesome, thanks. I got the elf head a couple of days ago and it sounds killer through a hartke 410 cabinet. My local music store is getting both cabinets for me to try. If they are loud enough I am thinking of getting one of each. Sure would make life easier.
