Whatcha watching?

Documental. It's a Japanese show where Japanese comedians are locked in an apartment together. Each contestant has put in 100,000 yen and the winner gets to keep the money for a total of one million yen. The winner is the person who lasts the longest without laughing. It's hilarious and as the seasons have passed they've added a few rules, like last season, the eliminated contestants can come back for a zombie session in which they can try to get the current contestants to laugh and get their money back.

It's got English subtitles for those of us who don't understand Japanese.

The concept of lying with impunity to manage perception and gain trust. No conscience required. It's a pathological thing. You'll be celebrated for it anyway:

Are you on to series 3 yet? If so, how is it? Enjoyed the first two but read the first three books in the meantime and kind of drifted away from the whole thing. I’ll give series 3 a go some time, I appreciate the way there are more grey areas and moral dilemmas than most SF series, not just good guys vs bad guys.
I haven’t started it yet... been working through the craziness and now we are moving... might have to check the books out. Thanks for the tip!

This movie is ridiculous. I love it.

Watchmen did turn out pretty darn good IMO. Another HBO one that is pretty great in a weird way IMO is The Leftovers, it'll take a bit longer to binge though.

My most recent thing I started was finally getting around to The Man In The High Castle from Prime. The book has been in my top picks of Phillip K. Dick stuff since I first read it. Series seems well done, & the atmosphere jives pretty well w/ what I had in my head from the book, but seems like they added pretty extensively to plot & cast of characters for the 3.5 episodes I was conscious for, so much so I barely recognized more than a couple of them from the book.

I had a little trouble getting into MITHC (though I'm a PKD fan) but man.... The Leftovers is such a beautiful piece of work. Season 1 was a little rough IMO but then it really found its footing.

Yeah, what I've seen w/ MITHC was a little perplexing as it seems like production values & design are really good, performances & cast likewise, & the dialog also. I guess it's the expanded narrative from what I recall from the book that's made it not quite grab me yet? We'll see, gonna make myself spin it back up from the start again next time I've got a block of time to dedicate my full attention for at least 4 or 5 episodes.

On The Leftovers, I usually give this disclaimer that it might not grab you for the first third - half of the 1st season, but after that it's one of my favorites.

The first step is admitting the problems. I have 2 additions: buying instruments and buying Blu-rays/DVDs (the Title count is 2424 currently). I have hundreds of titles unwatched, still wrapped in plastic.

To help the time pass through these past few months, we've been watching a movie each night. I can't recall the exact order, so I'm drawing from my memory since March. We've gone through a number of films and series, alternating action & animation including: 8 Harry Potter films, Fantastic Beasts 1-2, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Hobbit trilogy, Ice Age 1-5, Austin Powers trilogy, Hunger Games 1-4, Chronicles of Narnia 1-3, Divergent 1-3, E.T., Ghostbusters 1-2, Men in Black 1-4, Lucy, Paddington 1-2, Abominable, Smallfoot, The Boss Baby, The Boxtrolls, Trolls, Spirited Away, The Dark Tower, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, Robin Hood Men in Tights, Dracula Dead and Loving It, Ferdinand, Happily N'ever After 1-2, Hoodwinked 1-2, Hotel Transylvania 1-3, Frankenweenie, The Good Dinosaur, Kung Fu Panda 1-3, Megamind, Night at the Museum 1-3, Shrek 1-4, Storks...

And currently we've almost finished all the Star Wars movies, as requested by my wife (proud moment). From Part I to Part IX. I placed Solo and Rogue One between Part III and Part IV. We also watched the 2 Ewok movies. Guess what?! She loved them all, even asking if they made a 3rd Ewok movie (that's a deep interest). She hung onto pertinent details through the films. She was surprised to learn about the Star Wars Holiday Special but I'll save that for viewing at Christmas time. I told her in advance that it will be awful. lol I don't have the animated Star Wars in my collection. I told her about The Mandalorian and showed her a picture of baby Yoda, but we don't have Disney Plus. I plan to show Spaceballs afterward.
