Hi all,
my name is Marko Ursin. I'm 39 years old elementary school teacher from Kouvola Finland. I live in our own house with my wife and 7 years old son. I've been building something all my life. Wooden boats, glass fiber boats, bicycle frames, our house, saunas for friends... I guess I'm some sort of projectaholic. I need to have some project going on all the time. I guess I'm also a bikeaholic. I use bicycle to get to work all the year. That makes about 3000 km per year.
I can use all the machinery at work. I teach 10 hours of crafts per week so the machines are part of my weekly job. I build mainly after work days and in the morning before my teaching starts. TB and specially LC has been a very nice place to hang out. I hope we can keep it that way.

Hi Marco

Teachers unite! I also do a lot of my building at school. I have a 30"x60' shop there and a 14'x14' shop at home....I do all my machine work there and all mycarving and 'fancy' stuff at home.

I'm impressed.. 3000km year round cycling in Finland? I ride about 2000 km a year but only from April to November.. old bones... too cold :)

Hey all. Names joe. I'm 21. I've worked full time as a bass maker in NYC for the last 2 years. I love every second of it. Its been a dream of mine since high school and its comming true! :hyper: Ive played bass (electric and upright) for 13 years and was a symphonic performance major at college for two years (I left school when i got the job building basses). I also play in band with my brother and our friends on Long Island.

Hi T2W and all...

My name is Martin, I'm 35 and I work in the fire alarm industry.

Building instruments is my hobby (my wife says she prefers to see me doing dust and woodshave in the basement instead of going to nude dancers or other similar activities...)

I've built so far 6 basses, 2 guitars and a very short scale "piccolo" bass (21 inches) for my daughter.

When not building anything, I take care of my daughter (soon to be 4 years old), fix the house, and I play in a rock/prog band. I have another baby on the way expected in august 2009.

OH, AND I'm a french Canadian : Salut Mario!!!!:D

I have no job, sad isnt it (please feel free to send me money at any time)
I do build adarondac chairs, and make a substantial amount in the summer, usually almost enough to last me the rest of year.
Ive built 5 and 1/2 basses
and i just love woodworking in general.

My name is Jason, I'm 33, i started playing the bass at 10.
I have built 2 pvc basses, in the process with my first 2 wooden basses. Have done setup and minor, minor guitar and bass repair (my weakest point is electronics currently).
A little Furniture restoring and guitar/bass cab building / refurbs.
Woodwork is no question a fascination for me. I also am a partner in a small recording studio, as well as a decent recording setup at home too.

I am a contractor for SAIC, a Systems administrator for the National weather service. Been married for a little over a year, my wife is currently 7mo. pregnant (first for her and I.) Lucked out and share a shop with my father, which is about 30x75, right next to my house.

Brent J. (beej is short for beejay - assigned to me so long ago I can't even remember who started it!)

38, father of two - my 15 year old son who is amazing and beautiful and my 16 month old daughter who is amazing and beautiful. Common-law married to my wife for 14 years now - son is from a previous relationship.

As a young man, I chose carpentry as a career and worked in it diligently until an injury stopped me cold. I had to seriously alter careers and think I've successfully done so. I've built all kinds of things over the years from a wide variety of materials (this seems to be a theme in this thread - hmm) and keep coming back to the beauty of wood. I've built several guitars over the years, although looking back and comparing to the work I see in this forum, all were very elementary, and none of them would hold a candle to the real and stunning craftsmanship of some of you guys.

Like Wilser, I tend to be very obsessive and self-critical, and I spend a great deal of time reading and researching on topics that pique my interest. I discovered this forum a few years ago, registered a while later and have been reading and occasionally opening my big fat mouth/typewriter from time to time as well.

I have to say, without gushing too much like a schoolgirl, that I love you guys! :D

Hey guys I'm John, 46 yrs old, married for 15+ yrs w/a 6yr old son. I was a professional furniture maker for 15+ years. I attended a now defunct woodworking school in western MA called Leeds Design Workshops. I learned to make furniture using hand tools mostly. I settled in western MA and made custom, high end furniture for art galleries and architects. I burned out and quit, packed up my tools and thought I would never pick up a hand plane again. Now I work as an exercise and sports injury rehab specialist. 3 years ago I decided I wanted to play the bass (which was always a dream). I looked in stores and online at basses and instrument design. I borrowed a friends Fender Jazz and didn't like how the bass felt on my body (too heavy, neck dived and it hurt to play). I got inspired and pulled out my woodworking tools, I started designing my own instruments focusing on ergonomics so that they didn't hurt my body. I also started taking bass lessons, learning to play Jazz which was also a life long dream. 3 years later I've made 5 basses: a couple of fretless electrics, a headless fretted and an 34" scale EUB. I also play in a couple of small jazz ensembles. Thanks to the TB community for all the good info and inspiration. Cheers

Ha, good one Rodent! I'm guessing birdseye is pretty stiff!!! You can be my rodent friend too! lol

Here's the really funny part: his real name is Newman, not Nelson!! It's been so long since I called him by his real name I forgot it!!! lol , my wife corrected me tho.

which brings me to:

Hey guys . . . this is my last post on LC. Me posting is gonna go the way of the dinosaur here on the LC forum.

Just when I thot things were looking up . . . This (Sunday) morning I awoke to find a rant from a TB'er in my PM inbox, reaming me for one of my posts on another thread (not this one).

Seems the guy thot I was talking all about him (he wasn't even one of the people on my mind when I made my remarks). He felt I needed some smarta**ed correction.

And whoever was on my mind when I wrote it, shall remain with me. Chances are, if you think it was YOU, it wasn't!!!! I never realized that a compound radius could ignite so much passion . . .

But, his email thoroughly proved a number of things to me. (One of which was knowing that I would regret pressing the "submit" button on that post! lol)

So that's it . . . I will never post again on the LC. I don't need asnine emails ruining my Sunday mornings. Especially when they show up 3 or 4 or more days after the fact.

Those of you who feel like staying in touch, can. I'll be more than happy to!

Just not in the forum. PM me.

There's a good way to put those to an end, of course on an individual to individual basis. Put them on your ignore list. Should also mask the visibility of their posts to you in any thread, IIRC (haven't had to use it fortunately).

Also, report posts that are redundant or could be answered by searching/stickies.

I believe that this thread shows there are many of us here that want LC to be about luthiery tips, tricks, and support. ...and a little bragging ;)

NOOOOO! that sux, man. you have been very helpful in many ways. i have already learned many things from your threads and posts, and those finish tips you PMed me about. your neck to body transition on the bolt-on was especially amazing. i and probably most on LC probebly would have never have thought of aproaching it like that. is there a way we can still see the build processes on your builds? if you are no longer wanting to use LC?

I am 27 Years old will be 28 next month. I have been married to by beautiful wife Traci since May of 2007. We are currently expecting our first child, Sophia.

I went to the Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery in the fall of 2000.
Since then I have worked at a Music Store (Mars Music, 2001), Done office work for my father's plumbing company (2001-2004), Police Officer for the City of Blue Springs, MO (2005-current)
Everyone who has known me since before I became a police officer all say I'm not "the police type". I am an extremely easy going guy, and really don't have the "cop body or attitude".

Building guitars full time is truly my goal in life (career wise), but in the meantime it is only done when I get some spare time, which seems like almost never.

I am also into Hot Rods and Kustoms, I have a project car (1949 Ford Club Coupe) that also has not been getting time spent on it lately.

I love talking to other people who have similar interest but just don't have alot of time to get out and meet people. That is one of the main reasons I use talkbass to meet new people, so if you want to talk PM me.

My name is Jean-Pierre

I'm married, have two boys and live in Hoboken, NJ.
I was formally trained as a furniture maker in Switzerland ( where I grew up ), have studied music at Berklee for 3 years, and now work as an architectural model maker.

I have been building Bass guitars on and off for about 15 years, depending mainly on my work situation. All in all, I've built 13 basses, 1 EUB and 2 Chapman Sticks. The Sticks and first few basses were absolutely terrible. Nowadays, they are better, but not quite there yet.

And yes, I love having a CNC at my disposal :)

Neat thread.

I'm an electroacoustics engineer. I design speakers, microphones, and electronics usually for specialized applications.

I used to be a development engineer for Shure brothers designing audio gear.

I have made a number of guitars long ago and recently started
building some basses just for fun. I play them in my home studio.

I noticed the cnc references...I also have cnc machines in my machine shop. Pretty handy for sure, although I rarely get to use them for musical instruments. Great for inlays!
