To be honest? I don't much care one way or the other, really. I have several basses with block inlays; a couple with shark fin inlays; and at least one bass with no inlays at all (Alembic). Most of them have the usual dot markers. I will say that I don't much care for really big block inlays - like the MOP ones on my Carvin LB-20's ebony fretboard. I'd have ordered MOP dots if I'd bought it new; but considering I only paid $360 for a hardly used $1500 bass? I suppose I can live with the blocks... To me, a bass - or any instrument - simply is what it is. If I want the thing, I'll buy it; regardless of what kind of inlays the fretboard has...
