Who Loves Block Inlay Fretboards ?

To be honest? I don't much care one way or the other, really. I have several basses with block inlays; a couple with shark fin inlays; and at least one bass with no inlays at all (Alembic). Most of them have the usual dot markers. I will say that I don't much care for really big block inlays - like the MOP ones on my Carvin LB-20's ebony fretboard. I'd have ordered MOP dots if I'd bought it new; but considering I only paid $360 for a hardly used $1500 bass? I suppose I can live with the blocks... To me, a bass - or any instrument - simply is what it is. If I want the thing, I'll buy it; regardless of what kind of inlays the fretboard has...

This^^. I'd never thought about it until I saw this thread. Now I have in some instances I slightly prefer dots over blocks; on a Gibson SG bass for instance.

I like blocks’ w symmetrical sizes and find them more functional than dots. I prefer Pearloid on RW or ebony, no binding (eg 2013 Select Jazz Bass). However, recently acquired a JB w black pearl on maple with black binding, and it’s growing on me. The white side dots on the black binding is a plus.

I wanted a vintage Jazz with block inlays and TV logo but with 60's bridge pickup spacing. And so I bought this beauuuutiful 1970 Jazz last year.

i do not like any kind of inlays on the fretboard. I like it clean. Just side dots for me.

My 1972 Jazz Bass (regrettably I sold, why?) and my 1966 Jazz Bass - I’ll keep that one forever.
