Wisconsin Bassist Club chapter IV (to the 4th degree)

Is this forum finished?? Did I miss the final call??
I nearly snorted an adult beverage through my nose.

My band only has only one more gig scheduled though the end-of-this-year. 😢 (so far)

But we're trying to get a song recorded (gremlins in the basement studio).

However, I just finished a brand new original (lyrics & melody in my head at this point) that I really like! It's about THAT woman that REALLY connects with you! 🥰

Anyways...in a few months, I hope to be able to point you to the finished product!

Mostly I'm playing percussion. We have about 12 gigs until year end & then the BL is moving to California for January through March of 2025. We'll pick up again when he returns.

Besides that, I got re-connected with a guitar player I worked with in the 80's. Amazing jazz player. Over the winter, we're working out some jazz-ish stuff for bass & guitar but we're also kicking around the idea of adding a singer or horn player.

The plan is that, come spring, we'll get some patio gigs playing wallpaper music. For now I'm doing this on electric but I'm getting my upright chops stronger so we can do this all acoustic.

Alright, so it's been a BUSY summer, and I haven't posted pics or checked in much....sorry peeps, I'm still here.

Here's a couple pics from today's show @ The Crystal Grand in WI Dells, was a great show overall, amazing stage & sound, crowd was a little light, but those that made it, seemed to have a good time! 🤘

Been a while since I've played a loud stage (we usually run "ampless", me with the Helix & my guitar players with Fractals), but today....let's just say it was nice to have the bass flapping my pants for a change, and a stage wedge ripping my head off.

Hope all are well
My 2024 season is coming to an end soon. A gig tomorrow 1-5 with the final stand on October 26. It’s been a great season for me. 25 gigs total.
My latest bass.

Sounds like you've been busy! I haven't hit 25 this year, probably closer to 15, but our calendar is filling back up, we've got 3 Gigis now through Dec., and we're booking into next Aug. already...It's cool and all, but it's also tough to schedule vacations etc...

To be honest, since most of my playing career has been in original bands, I never knew how much cover bands work (I now have much respect to those that do)...it seems like the emails for availabilities come in all the time now.

That new bass looks like a bit of a Ric clone? How does it stack up tone wise? I'd expect being a Harley Benton that the fit & finish isn't quite up to Ric standards?

On the contrary the fit and finish are very nice. It plays well, the pickup output is even. My only issue not only with Harley Beton, but all manufacturers is they. String with round wounds. I just don’t like them

I know 4 bassplayers who have purchased the JHS Punchline bass pedal. With special financing from Sweetwater and rave reviews from my friends I grabbed one up. As my friends said they also are set it and forget it guys. I have never been a pedal guy, but I love this.
The run is limited to 1000 units and as far as I know more than half are sold.
Just a heads up my friends

Nice looking unit, I had to go check out the specs etc..., I'd never heard about this until today, my Helix has all but cured my GAS, so I haven't bought much (pedal wise) in quite some time, but if I was in the market for an "all in one" type preamp pedal, it would be tough not to try this out.

It is our new Greenhouse. We will start all our vegetable seeds for our 8 raised vegetable beds. Next spring we will also grow early spinach and lettuce while it is still to cold outside
You are much more ambitious than I am. I just go to the Piggly Wiggly for that stuff giving me more time in the recliner with a glass of good single malt.

I haven't checked in for a long time and I hope that everyone is doing well. What's new with me? I joined a band based out of the Merrill / Wausau area called The Bad Downs. The band has been around for about 23 years, so they have a good following and have no problem booking gigs. They were re-tooling and just added a female vocalist and were looking for a new bassist. The only thing that was going to pull me out of retirement was a well-established band within an hour radius of my house that was in need of a bassist. I saw their ad for a bassist so I reached out to them to set up a jam session to see how things would go. It went really well so I accepted the position. That was a couple of weeks ago and we have about 30 songs down. Our 1st gig with the new line-up is mid-January. We play a wide variety of multiple genres, which was another thing that I was looking for in a band. After playing for Slab, I would have a hard time playing in a single genre band.

I've been only playing my 5-String with the new band, so I decided to sell the 4-string that I bought new 6-months ago when I was briefly in a metal band that I decided wasn't my cup-o-tea. I'm looking for an in-person cash sale (preferably) but may consider shipping even though I hate shipping basses. I may possibly consider a trade for a 5-String if it's a good fit for me (plus or minus cash to boot depending on the price difference). I actually decided to take the bass that I'm selling back to my luthier today to have him put the original Ibanez pre-amp back in the bass and just sell the bass with the original gig bag so I can list the bass for cheaper to help it sell faster. I thought it would be a better idea to break things up and sell the Aguilar pre-amp and hardshell case separately to help bring the bass in more people's price range. I'll re-list it when I get the bass back from my luthier next week. Have a great weekend everyone!
