Alternative for Roto Swing66 lasts longer

Have you bought some SS Lo Riders yet?

Seriously, the tension/flex is almost identical, they're smoother, last longer and don't have that typical 'clank' that's associated with steels.

But do the roto have that clank ?

I've tried the DR Hi-Beams and Lo-Riders and found both too tame. DR's strings are just too refined-sounding for me.

Well I got some unfortunate news from La Bella today. They're going to be discontinuing the Stainless Steel series of strings and just concentrate on their lower-tension Rx strings. I guess I'll be going back to the Roto RS66 after I use up the M45s I have at home.

I know that Jason Newsted has played the M45 for a long time. Assuming he still does, I wonder what he'll switch to.

I believe they are only discontinuing the SS series in the non-standard scale lengths.

SS lo riders do not have the same type of clank as the rotos. i find the lo riders a bit more grating when brand new. the high end will tame down once they break in and they sound good but don't have the attack and aggressiveness of the rotos. having said that, the lo riders last a LOT longer than the rotos. the rotos are good for a week or two before they go dead, thumpy and start to lose sustain.

Where did you hear that? La Bella told me, "Unfortunately we're going to discontinue this series in 2018." When I asked why, they said, "We're pushing our more popular line the Rx Series."

I asked one of the dealers in Canada. they were told just the non-standard lengths are being discontinued.

What about Thomastik-Infeld? Or https://www.coccostrings.com/ which is what I've been using for several years. I am a former Roto man.

I would still say SS Lo Riders are closer.

Even D'Addario ProSteels are closer.

Gosh I hope not! The Standard Steel series is a great string. I prefer it to the RX line ( they're nice too ).

They still have the Rx Stainless series. I don't know how they compare to the other La Bella Stainless, but I like them.

I haven't tried the Rx, but I know they are more flexible than the SS. I like really stiff strings, so the Rx don't interest me.

Strongly second this, but they are not Rotosounds. I got a crate of lowriders years back. Now that they are gone, i am back with Rotosounds.

I've found both Hi-Beams and Lo-Riders to be too refined/laid-back-sounding compared to Rotosounds. Always left me wanting more.
