Club Moollon

Great Story and Really Niice P classic! Congrats!

I’ve had my Fiesta Red J5 classic tucked away in its case for a few months now, but I pulled it out this morning for a jam session and it just feels and sounds perfect, even though I mostly play 4 strings.

A few weeks back, I met up with another TB member and we compared a Moollon P and an Olinto P side by side. Both are fantastic basses, but if I had to pick one, especially for a deserted island scenario, it would definitely be the Moollon. The notes really pop off the fingerboard and the neck just feels spot on. YJ’s formula seems to really hit the mark!

I’m hoping to add a P Classic or a JIV Classic to my collection someday, but for now, my ’63 Fender CS will suffice. Managed to get my hands on a Moollon P pickup and a Mas Hino P pickup recently – so that’s a good start! lol

Oh, Regarding Moollon's customer service, working with Andi and YJ has been a genuine pleasure. I'd consider ordering a P Classic, but the substantial 3.5-year wait gives me pause. I'll keep an eye on the used market. :)

The neck won me over, and you are spot on with the notes popping off the fingerboard. There is a hint of the classic C# dead spot, but I can absolutely get it to sustain just fine. I was looking for a punchy P and this delivers. So much character. Diamond bass comp with the tilt eq at 10 through a Genzler Magellan with the “old school” eq contour at noon and the bass’s tone control at 50% is strait sexy. (And of course flats)

Very true. Every time I have G. A. S. for another instrument I play my Moollon and all of that disappears.
Try a great Pre-CBS and you'll be in even deeper G.A.S. trouble. Something some Moollon owners may find hard to believe, but it's (subjectively) true. I love my Moollons, but if push came to shove, the vintage Fenders would have to be the choice. To my ears, they just sound more of what I'm looking for, but more definitively, the "whole package" is just magical. The feel of a neck played for 60 years, worn off finish, fingerboard edges more rounded and worn than any current builder is willing to pursue, low, but level frets, and a body that's had 60+ years of drying and adapting is hard to describe. Having now owned ( or own ) Moollons, Olinto, Alleva-Coppolo, and lot's more vintagey P's and J's, I can finally say the G.A.S. is over. Kind of bored now.............

Moollon live recording from the wild this weekend.
if you are interested in hearing a Moollon J5 with Olinto signature flats, some compression, an Alembic pre-amp, a class D power amp, and two Subway 15's with (a bit sloppy) pick playing, here you go.
You won't get to actually SEE the bass, the video is from a 360 camera on my headstock and it thinks my bass neck is a selfie stick and edits it out.
But you can hear some good thumpy-ness on stage from camera mics.

I hope you do not mind me posting pictures of my Moollon :D

Sounds real nice! Were you playing with a pick?

Yeah if I could find a GOOD pre-CBS or even early CBS jazz bass I would still do it... but I would have to play it first.
