Does "Handcrafted" have any impact on your buying decisions?

I’ve made a couple of bodies before from scratch starting with rough cut wood and if you have a bandsaw it’s not that big a deal. I’m really not getting the “handcrafted” part of it. A $200 Squier has a body that likely has no imperfections. What would make it a bigger deal imo would be to offer diverse customization. Want a larger or smaller round over than Fender offers?, no problem. Slab body with binding?,no problem. Want to put pen to paper and design your own body and have me make it?, no problem. Want chambering to keep the weight down without paying a rediculous price?, no problem.

Hearing ideas like all the ones previous, I'd make sure a CNC router, they have come down, would be in your future. The customization you could do with one, plus the repeatability is a plus.

I think the problem is that you’re only
making bodies. I would be unlikely to buy a body from you and then a neck from someone else. Anyone selling necks will also be selling bodies. USACG can sell an unfinished solid Tele or Strat body for $140. I think you would have to come up with a unique shape that would make me want to buy from you versus where I’m buying the neck. But the problem with unique shapes is that they have limited appeal. Maybe, if you’re good at it, the business is in the finishing rather than the carving.

As this business idea has not been enacted yet and you’re still garnering ideas we can keep this thread open, but please remember that if you decide to follow through with it you will need to register as a commercial user and follow the rules of our Commercial User Policy.

Thank you
