Earthquaker Devices Blumes

Kind of fun, but a bit overwhelming, how many different colors folks have done the Blumes in for all the different distributions. I mean, how does one choose?!? Water blue? Purple sparkles? White and turquoise? All the greens? Blue & orange?
It is hard enough to pick an overdrive pedal, now we have to pick colors too? I will admit, most of them do make me smile.

Agreed - that’s how I felt - and that’s why I was happy that a used one kind of fell into my lap. I definitely shouldn’t make going into GC a habit :D

Glad to see I’m not the only one who is disappointed in the level control. I made an account here just to complain about it. The output out of mode 2 is so ridiculously high even with Level at or below 8:00 that it is impossible for me to level match it to my clean signal. Which essentially means it has to be an always on effect or it is unusable in live situation where I’ve already leveled my volume.

i'm going to build clone of mine ( and i did build a bass plumes before the blumes came out) but with a 1meg audio level pot and an input trimmer so i can run it more easily on the cleaner side.
Before you do that, try it with an attenuated signal to mimic the trimmer. I did that with an eq pedal first in chain and found the drive onset doesn't play nice at any setting. Comes on like occasional farts (in mode 2 my favourite)

I must be one of the only weirdos that in fact likes how the volume works in these. It allows me to match different levels on the three modes, considering the differences in volume between all of them. I like to use the Blumes in front of a Grizzly Bass or a Model feT, as if I was pushing the front of an amp. So, more volume means more saturation instead of a db increase. I really like that the pedal has such an enormous amount of volume on tap.

i got my clone completed and i find it to be much more versatile and easier to control.

Mode 2, level 8 o'clock, tone 12, gain 8. Adjust gain gradually and get to know it.
Then same again for other modes but increase Level to match to equivalent levels (as level drops on 1 and 3 modes).
Be careful not to drive the next pedal or amp after it (oodles of level available)

I use settings very close to that, with the level slightly higher and tone a little lower, mode 2. Like others here, I've found it sounds fantastic with the band, and I'm keeping it on more than I expected. It works well with my G&L SB-2. So far I've used it only for rehearsals, but it hits the stage tomorrow.

Got a Blumes last week, special colorway from B's Music (it has a cat on the bottom!). I really love this pedal, though I do agree with the complaints about the volume control. Mode 2 is not really usable for me because of how loud it is, even though it's a nice sound. Modes 1 and 3 are really great, though, I find myself gravitating towards low gain settings. My main bass is tuned down to G#0, and the distortion is still very tight and articulate down in that range.
