Fender Rumble Club

Just wanted to report back on my adventure with finding replacement speakers for my Ruble 800 2x10.
Trying to contact Fender was a dead end, as was trying to get info from Eminence. Might still get a reply at some point, but not interested in chasing this down.
Played a gig the other day, wasn't doing anything too crazy but it was a loud band, so I brought the 2x10 extension.
Was running input gain around 9 am, output at around noon or 1 on full power mode. EQ just about flat, high end cut some.
About 2/3rd the way through I caught a whiff of the magic happening and knew this would be it for the combo speakers.
The extension cab was fine. I imagine a previous owner had whipped it pretty good and it was just a matter of time, like I has suspected.
Anyway, the speakers never stoped functioning but sounded a bit rattly, and crappy the next day, so I decided to try a new set.
Looking at Eminence, the stock drivers appear closest to their bass lite SC10-16.
I considered these, but to my ear the extension cab always sounded superior so I decided to try a pair of standard speakers despite adding a few pounds. I didn't want to buy premium drivers, since this is such a budget amp, so went with a pair of Beta 10-B.
They arrived yesterday, and I swapped them out today. Boom! They sound fantastic!
Big improvement, testing the amp pretty cranked (more than I would gig at by far) just to see if there would be any anomalies due to driver and enclosure parameters and porting since this was a blind swap, and there was no issues at all.
Weight is coming in at around the same as the extension cab now, maybe a couple pounds more.
A couple things to note- my combo was completely covered on the interior with absorption material, which I did not expect. Pretty cool. Looks to be stock.
The quality of the wood used is really poor, like dent with your fingernail poor, So I went slow and used minimal torque setting on my power drill.
The quality of the Eminence (100 bucks each) is equally cheap, as are the screws, which can strip easily so slow and low power is the way.
I managed to get both speakers in without issue, but one was making a slight rattle so I reseated it, making sure the wiring wasn't contacting anything (pretty sure that was the problem). Last the slide on clips on the stock wire are junk, one just fell apart when I tried to gently re-crimp it while on the speaker because it was loose. I ended up soldering.
I know I'm harping about quality a lot, but I'm not mad. We get incredible stuff cheap as chips, and some of it is likely to function well into the future. At cost per gig, it makes sense. If it dies, it's not a major set back. I'm still well over 100 bucks below new cost, and feel the overall sound of the rig is quite improved, regardless of the condition of the previous drivers. (I had used these quite a bit in shared back line situations before buying).
Will report back if it takes a dump or anything negative happens.
Thanks to everyone who shared their thoughts and info.

Swapped in the mini witch-hat knobs. I like this look.
I like the look too. But I had to change them back to the white(-ish) chicken heads becuz where these are located on the Rumble, they have no visual value without going to them and figuring out what their positions are. The chicken heads look pretty good too but more importantly, I can see at a glance where they're set. But I do like those witch-hat knobs...

I've just joined TalkBass. Rumble 500 user here. I have a road case coming for it, so I don't keep bashing the thing... I gig it all around East Tennessee.

Howdy, there! @sox, you are now member #1796 in the Fender Rumble Club. Congratulations and welcome. Put that number in your TalkBass Signature for safe keeping. Then make yourself at home here and on your Rumble Club Wiki page, the repository of all Rumbling wisdom and knowledge.

In the Rumble Modifications section of your Rumble Club Wiki page you'll find a couple of links to others who have also "Blackfaced" their Rumbles, complete with knob specifications.

So, soxy, how about telling us a bit about yourself, such as your bass experience in general and your Rumble journey in particular? You'll fit right in here since we have all kinds. But we all love to ... ... ...

Rumble On!

I just picked up a rumble 100. So far I'm loving it. On mine I can turn the gain knob all the way down and still get some sound coming out of the speaker. If I switch to the drive channel and turn the level down no sound comes out. If I turn the master all the way down no sound comes out. Is that normal behavior? Otherwise the amp works fine.

All normal. Check the manual and the Rumble Club Wiki for explanations. I love my 3 Rumbles, but it took a little getting used to settings that are very different from previous amps.

Yep, it's workin' like a charm.

Like Plaid and John said, all normal. The gain control works differently that you're likely used to. The manual and/or wiki will explain better than I can. The Drive also works as a mute and can be controlled by an optional footswitch. Another thing you probably aren't aware of, the EQ section is not flat at 'noon'. The wiki will be helpful here as well. Good luck, and ask questions if you need to. Great bunch here.

That's a great tip! Def will use that one.

I am getting a feel for the EQ and was aware of the general vibe of the amp as I've used some of the smaller ones before. I usually cut mids on most amps but find myself boosting on this one.

I had an Eminence S2012 lying around that I put in. It sounded good before the swap but the new speaker seems to handle cranking the volume a bit better. I got lucky my r100 came in a bit under the spec'd weight and with the new speaker is under 20lbs.

Very happy with the sound and output of this thing. I bought it mainly for small bar gigs that get a bit loud and it seems like it'll be perfect for that. I was able to do an outdoor gig with a rock band last weekend. Not high volume but the r100 did fine. I had plenty of volume and it sounded great.

Also mine has a pre/post switch on the DI. I wasn't expecting that as that was a complaint I read from other owners and pics online of the rear only show a ground lift. Looks like they upgraded it?

Whoop, there it is! @basss, you are now member #1797 in the Fender Rumble Club. Congratulations and welcome. Put that number in your TalkBass Signature for safe keeping. Then make yourself at home here and on your Rumble Club Wiki page, the repository of all Rumbling wisdom and knowledge.

Well, you apparently got your immediate questions answered here (as you could have also found on the Rumble Club Wiki page). BUT, the BURNING question WE all still have for YOU was asked way back in DECEMBER of 2023:
I'm playing at a club in a few weeks that has this amp as backline. They're calling it a Fender Rumble 100. I played there a while back and I seem to remember that it was one of the smaller rumble amps and was not enough for that venue, but maybe they got a new amp. If it is a rumble 100 I could use that but if it's one of the smaller ones I'll probably bring my own amp. Can anyone tell from this picture which one it is?

That is a Rumble 40 v3. They use the same grill cloth on a 40 and a 100. In the picture there are 65 rows of darker stitching counting from the top to the bottom. A Rumble 100 has 75 rows. Those ten extra rows of grill cloth measure two inches.
My uncalibrated eyeball measurement (I blame the new lenses from cataract surgery) bows to your empirical data method of analysis. I've been looking at pix of 40s & 100s and counting rows since I read this post and I am forced to concur with your result! Congratulations!

Sorry, @basss, maybe they upgraded to the 100 since that picture was taken?
DID THE CLUB HAVE A RUMBLE 40, as you recalled & the pic indicated??? OR DID THE CLUB HAVE A RUMBLE 100, as their website said???

Truer words were never spoke. That's what the 7ender Bassman line is for.

More true words, most especially so in gigging situations.

Howsomeever, at home alone, though, even I can hear* the creamy tubeyness of my Bassman 500 tube pre-amp (and ICEpower power amp for very light weight) versus my non-tube Rumble 500 combo, and it is positively to die for!!!

*Remember that I'm the one who cannot hear any significant difference between the R500c's 10" ceramic speakers and Bassman 115 NEO driver, when the 115 is used as an extension to the Rumble (so, same exact signal)!

@G-Dog i will try how 2 R200 V3 combo stack sound when i am free to pickup my custom length patch cable .

Pickup my custom length patch cable yesterday. There are only 200c and 500c each at music store, but the staff not entertain me when i asking is possible open another 200c to stack them up. He allow me stack both 200c and 500c. 500c on top and 200c on bottom.
The result are lot of bottom , punch and loud ! Bright button engage and tweeter ON on both combo bring out nice clarity .
Since the 500c 210 on top, i can hear lot of the detail in front me than single 500c on floor.

For single combo compare, i still licking the 200c tone more when Vintage and Bright button engage.

I've made an important life decision and bought a second Rumble, pics to come.

Question: What sort of cable do I use to daisy chain them via the fx send and return? I'm assuming an instrument rather than speaker cable.

I tried searching the forum. Please confirm before my bass awesomeness creates a supernova followed by smoky black hole...

Yes, please use an instrument cable. A speaker cable is not shielded and would introduce noise.

So, the club had a MarkBass 210 and their website called it a Rumble 100? Hmmm, sounds like something a GC would do. 😵‍💫
