Jason Aldean on SNL

Watching that performance made me recall Tom Petty's comment several years ago as to his opinion of "new' country bands, or whateveryou want to call them. I won't restate it here as not to be insulting but it was pretty widely reported. I'll just say that after watching Aldean and his bands obviously tossed together tribute on SNL IMO Mr. Petty's assessment is pretty well spot on.

It’s Tully Kennedy, and I believe he’s produced all of his albums as well. He’s a TB’er.
Good to know. He's a stud on those Aldean tunes. Sounds very improvised in a good way. Had to learn 3 or 4 Brad Paisley tunes for that show as well and his bass player was great...not to mention just memorizing the stucture of one of Paisly's songs on short notice was kind of a nightmare. I think I made charts for those.

This thread is cracking me up because the day after SNL one of my band mates sent a text to the group that said "Listen to Jason Aldean on SNL. Is he really pitchy?"

He was, but then on the other hand I had to give the guy a break because less than a week before he'd been onsite at the shooting in LV. Kind of amazing he had the wherewithal to even be on SNL.

Still, his singing was way off.

He plays on country stations but I consider Aldean more Rock N Roll than country. I like his music but he's not a crooner.

Is it just me hearing it wonky or was Jason Aldean singing flat on his SNL Petty tribute?
It kinda hurt my ears.

Yeah, he didn't do a great job of singing. Maybe he kept hearing the gunfire or the screaming of the dying & wounded in his head.

He was a part of the most tragic mass shooting in American history 5 days prior. Cut the guy a little slack.

When terrorists attacked in Manchester, I thought it was a VERY gutsy thing of Ariana Grande to so quickly have a benefit concert.

These performers will likely suffer from PTSD or survivors guilt, for many years to come.

I kind of got the impression that this was thrown together at the last minute.
He (his band) wasn't/weren't the musical guest of record for that night.
I switched over to it right at the start of the song so missed any intro there may have been.
Wonder if they approached Sam Smith about doing something. He was the music that night.

Jason was on stage during the Vegas shooting, so it was more appropriate to have him do the dual-tribute.

Find the online video with his intro...

yeah he was flat as all hell. And I do not like his "style" of singing (I use that term loosely). But, his band was excellent and the overall vibe/feel was good and he made a good little speech.
