Jason Aldean on SNL

I think we are getting spoiled by autotune. He did not have much chance to prep this, he had just gone through that tragedy, and Petty is high and not easy to sing. Never mind on TV things are rushed. Better than 99.9% of us could have done, especially under the circumstances.
Speak for yourself.

whew! I had to go listen to Tom singing it to get that horrible Aldean performance out of my head. And could the mix have possibly been worse? What is it with SNL and having horrible mixes? I would think a show with that budget could easily hire a sound guy to make a mix just for TV. It sounds like was recording on a iPhone.

SNL ratings must be in the toilet. Savvy business move to try to bring back some viewers from groups who have certainly tuned out due to their largely hate-filled "comedy" in recent seasons.
Actually, quite the opposite. The most recent season, which ended in May, saw a surge in ratings from the prior year--it was the most-watched season since 1993-94, which is quite an accomplishment since ratings for traditional networks have been down across the board for years as people choose other entertainment options.

Somehow when SNL, which has always been political, teased Obama nobody said a word. Now Trump is president and the comedy is "hate filled". (Not looking to break forum rules, just an observation.)

Anyway, the sound for some reason on the show is never good. I was in the audience once (ironically years ago when Tom Petty was the musical guest) and it was so loud you could barely make out the individual instruments. Strange, because the house band sounded fine.

Over the years there have been many musical acts where the singer is out of tune. My guess is that the mix is so bad unless you are a really spot on gifted vocalist it is a tough gig. Ben Folds Five, Crash Test Dummies and Lana Del Ray immediately come to mind but there have been many others.

Funny, I saw him at the State Fair a few years back and he was fine that night. But that SNL performance was horribly flat.

Yeah the band kills in concert too. I'm not a huge fan of his songs (in fact we only went to the concert because we happened to be there and it wasn't sold out). The band is a rock band playing "country". But they are good at what they do.

There is a difference with making fun of politicians and the clear disdain they have for Trump. I am shocked it's not obvious to everyone, but that's all I'll say on the topic.

You do realize he's hosted the show, right?

Anyway, back on topic...Has anyone seen other TV shows being taped? (You know, maybe one of the late night talk shows that have musical guests.)
I'm curious if this is an SNL thing or a TV studio phenomenon.

Yes, haven't missed an episode in ten years. DVR is your friend.

I still love the show and, like you, have seen every episode. (Literally!)

There are hits and misses but almost always one or two jokes or skits that will give me a laugh.

I also like watching live music although I have to admit I don't know who 70% of the guests and hosts are. But it keeps me young(er).
