Day 17 - Today's activity was just an unpacking of the materials that arrived yesterday (pots, tuners, bridge, frets, copper tape, etc.):

Really interesting that you use hand tools and are really good at it. What really impresses me is how you use a hand plane to level everything. I am interested to see how you are slotting your fretboard and installing the frets.

Oops!!! I forgot to post it here! Thanks for advising...
Day 16 (thanks to RobTheRiot):
stevecaronna, on my first build (a Les Paul model) I had almost nothing to help me on slotting the fretboard else a bread cutter... then I gave up and bought a hand saw for slotting. Installing the frets still remains the same method: hammer, super glue, file, etc.

I love the time spent on the wiggle on the headstock ears, been there many times, rarely documented.
One tip - you might want to pull the rubber mat out when gluing, once it gets coated in glue it loses it's stickiness and parts slide around.

What is the silver piece of metal(?) you use to gauge straightness? Is it some sort of luthier's tool or just a billet of aluminum or something?

The one at 03:11? If so, it's just a caliper. I used it to check the back side of the tuners, to ensure they are aligned.
That long piece of aluminum? It is a "mason's rule", which they use to flatten the cement into walls, floors, ceilings, etc.
It's relatively cheap (about U$7) and very useful on stuffs like that.

I can't believe you route the pickup cavities without a template. Wow! Good job!
I'm impressed with how neat your work is without having all the expensive tools. You make me want to try routing my fretless myself to put in an MM style pup at the bridge...... but I know I'd screw it up.
