New La Bella Golden Alloy Flatwounds

5 string set came in the mail today. In terms of tension and tone, very close to the stainless LaBella flats, but with a bit more midrange. Surface is soft as butter. Personally, I was hoping for a bit more brightness/growl, closer to TI jazz flats. Still great strings, and they look unbelievable on my Cirrus drool

Your picture really shows the color!!!! All the photos I seem to take wash out the golden color!

BEAUTIFUL!!!

Why the silk length of the low B & E are so much different than the rest? It's like they have very different winding length.

This is how all La Bella long scale sets are....

B and E have 37" winding
A D G C have 38"

This way they only need to produce longer B and E strings to complete an extra long set.

Very common among string makers. Usually don't notice when there is no silk.

In all my years of playing I'd never seen the square numbered beads that were on this set of strings. Did they think we couldn't tell the strings apart if they weren't in separate little envelopes? ;o)

That's a good question.

Sorry about the previous duplicate posts. First time I did a TB post from my phone. Obviously there are phone or (more likely) user issues.

You would be surprised...

Seemed weird to me too, but I guess not too different from the multicolored ball ends on DAddarios.

La Bella does not want their strings to have colored ball ends...

Am I missing something here, but don't LaBella's have those numbered cube thingy's on them?.....

They are supposed to be removed before installation.

I actually like the La Bella's way of doing this. Once the strings are installed on the bass, those numbered cubes are gone, while those gaudy colored ball ends on the D'As stay on there permanently and look hideous on the bass.

Got a set of medium scale golds from Jason for Christmas and just put them on my 32" J fretless (w/ Nordy dual coil pups) and it's the best that fretless has ever played and sounded. I tried the white tapewounds when they came out and liked them, then the coppers and liked them too, but these definitely sound the best. Nice punchy mids, full but clear bottom and just the right amount of fretless "mwah". The coppers were a little woodier sounding and more "polite", but these have some nice growl to them and can get more aggressive if desired. I went with the standard gauge set this time and I think that helped too.

@SLaPiNFuNK - these come in medium scale (32")????

Duh... I'm such a bonehead sometimes. Yes, I saw the thread title, assumed it was referring to the white tape gold wound strings and jumped in at the end. Because I didn't bother to look at the first post, I didn't even know that there were new gold flatwounds. All my comments were about the white tape golds. I'll see if I can delete the errant post(s) so I don't pollute the thread with incorrect info. My apologies.

Edit: I deleted my other posts in an effort to reduce the existing online proof of my innate stoopidity. What can I say? I used to play drums... ;)
