Sei Owners Club

KCoble, I'm home now and have checked your pics and that is indeed my original Sei! :hyper: Lovely to see her again! How is the neck doing? I must admit it moved a lot when I had it (it was built for me in 1996) and I could never get it quite right, which is the main reason I sold it. I guess your experience differs. Was it you I corresponded with about the amboina "jazz" on ebay? I've also drooled over both the fretless thuya 6 and the amboina 5. Lovely basses all of them! Do you currently own them all? If so, which is your favourite, if you have one?

BTW, if you wish I can scan some build pics of SN053 and either post them on here or send them to you via email. I've been meaning to scan them for a while; I can also do that with regards my old buckeye 4 for it's current owner (I'll have to go back through the thread to remember who that is!).

We are rapidly closing in on 1000 postings people

I was messing about and Googled "Sei Bass". The Owners Club is entry number 9 on the 1st page. :D

We are moving up in the world folks - spread the word.

Don't forget to add your membership numbers to your sigs. If you haven't got one or are a waiter PM me.

Y-E-S-!!!

I'd love to get some build pics of 053. Martin told me about you stopping by and lamenting letting it go. The neck has settled down over the last few years and as long as I keep it cased instead of out on the stand when not being played (a smart move anyway for any bass) it stays very stable. (In fact I have it on travel with me this week for rehearsal for a gig this weekend.) Go ahead and email and post them.

You probably corresponded with the original Amboyna J5 owner as I bought this bass from him on EBay a couple of months back. I really liked the idea of a 35-inch neck on a J5...and I haven't been disappointed.

As for my favorite bass it’s tough to say. I love them all for different reasons...I must confess I even love my non-Sei basses. Speaking of non-Sei's, I'm trying to talk Jens Ritter into selling me his Ebony covered pups and guts for my Millennium-7, but I don't think he's going to say yes until I visit with him next month at his shop in Germany...I'll keep you posted.

M...the headless six is still not for sale….sorry amigo. You’ll be the first to know. Who knows what my wife will say when my M7 shows up!

As a tip for you headless owners out there who may not already be on to it, you can use a "regular" guitar HSC like a pelican, gator, or any other non-form-fitting style to carry your headless Flamboyants. It's a great and compact way to protect your investment. Ken Wittman (www.wittman-spins.com) turned me on to this little trick. (Ken re-furbed a headless six bass of mine he built for Benny Rietveld of Santana fame.)

Cheers!

Wow K, your old lady must be very understanding. I'm usually sulked at & ignored for a month or two every time a new bass shows up.
Hope (rather selfishly) that the M7 is everything you expect it to be & more. By the way, does the six accept regular strings or only double-ball-ends?

Hmm, that sounds familiar! I'm not the only one then!

Somehow I think it will go for more than £700, but even so it will be a great bass for someone.

Nick, the original owner spent a lot of time getting this bass together and I am sorry he had to let it go. Now up for sale again! still someone will be happy.

Just heard your new track, I love it and your Sei cuts through very well, sounds to me a little like a Warwick Thumb bass, what eq where you using. Am I right in thinking it is a Schack 18v and Barts?. Anyway great stuff.

Hi KCoble. Glad to hear the neck has settled somewhat. If it wasn't for that I'd probably have kept her. I'll post some pictures later when I get home (they were all taken on one day, so I'm afraid there's no great variety in terms of build stages). If you want me to send you copies via e-mail just PM me with your e-mail address.

Ah, yes, you probably bought the amboina J from the person I corresponded with. I toyed with the idea of getting it but shipping and duty made the purchase prohibitive and I decided to stick to my original plan of getting the melt-top.

I'd be interested to hear what a Ritter-equipped Sei sounded like (although I've never heard a Ritter); I've often wondered what an Alembic-equipped Sei would sound like as I'm rather partial to Alembic electronics. I may try it one day.:bassist:

I saw that s/c 6 last night. Why is bass gear like buses, nothing for ages and then everything at once? :meh: I'd be all over that if I had the money. As I don't, I hope it goes to someone who will appreciate it and spread the word.....

Matthew, Yes, the Shack along with Kents... The eq was pretty flat I think, but when recording I always use the single coil taps, it records nicer for some reason.

Ahh Kents, I love em, my favorite pu. and I know what you mean about using the coil taps on them, I think it gives so much more punch in s/c mode which really lets you cut through when you require it.

Hi there,

Check this bad boy out... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/6-string-SEI-...oryZ4713QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Martins 1st singlecut build for £700!

Also, have just finished a new track with my Sei, its the 7 days tune here http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=79861127

:)
That sure is a beauty! Where in the UK are you located? I'm making a business trip from the Manchester area down through Salisbury to London the middle of next month...hmmmm.

And a couple more....these seem to be coming out awfully small but I don't seem to have much storage space. As I said previously, PM me your e-mail address and I'll forward better copies to you.

And one of me (looking absolutely nothing like me, don't know what was going on there!) with SN053 and my later buckeye 4 (SN forgotten!). There are a couple more photos of both basses which I can also email to the interested parties. Sorry for the poor quality but I had to shrink them loads (and they are from scans in the first place) as I appear to be running out of room!

Hey dudes - just a quickie - my copy of Bass Guitar Magazine arrived yesterday - real BIG nice review of Kev L's stunning Series II SC - Dave Marks says some good things, overall it gets top marks - of course... The bit about the Nordy PUs was particularly exciting - they sound like they are amazing - damn glad ordered that bass... oh boy, not long now!
