Something Looks Amiss (Fender American Deluxe P Content)

The seller just sent this image. I'm not sure what to make of it. Seems like the topmost string is more or less where it should be from this angle.

I agree. I'm currently at no. I did briefly consider making a low offer, but I'm not even sure I want to do that.
Yeah...I wouldn't
You can lowball for something wonky but what do you have in the end...Something wonky

Whatever it is in life, I have always been happier to pony up and not question it.

Too bad. It's such a pretty bass with a lot of features that I like. I'm beginning to think Fender thought better of the regular-size neck plate (same as a four-string bass, Strat, or Tele!) they used on this rendition of the ADPBV because for the next subsequent years, they switched to the more-appropriate asymmetrical neck plate. Maybe that's even the genesis of the current issue.

Either way, I'm out.

I have a 2006 just like this, it’s a great bass. One thing you may not be aware of is that there is no passive mode. 18v preamp. Not a problem for me, but for some folks the passive option is important. Also the body style makes these a bit lighter and they have an extra fret compared with my regular P bass. Mine weighs 8.8lbs.

I would not worry about string spacing on this bass because it’s easily adjusted. But worth mentioning that these come up used on GC all the time, currently there’s a sunburst and a red one for under $1100. Shipping is cheap, and you have 45 day return policy so you can make sure everything is in order.

Selowitch- I own one of these basses. Here is what I can tell you; the bridge saddle is adjusted to tilt towards the edge of the neck in that photo. That can be adjusted easily. Also, notice the saddles allow you to chose which set of ridges the string sits in. Once the saddle is leveled, you are probably aligned, if you want you can still move the string in by choosing the inner set of ridges to seat the string.

These basses are pretty rare. You don't see a whole lot of them for sale because they are some the best production basses Fender ever made with a huge selection of tones modern and vintage. Owners of these basses don't often sell them.

The asymmetrical compound radius neck is among the most comfortable I have ever played. Fit and finish is superior on this model. I am certain that neck pocket is tight.

Very helpful post, thanks. What year is yours? I’m curious to know which neck plate style you have.
