Mine (CV 60, Olympic White & Tort) arrived last Thursday from a well-know online/B&M) seller. I was at a doctor's appointment but watched (on the Ring doorbell app) the driver from a well-known carrier carefully unload and carry the box to the porch and hand it to my wife. The bass was double-boxed and there was no damage to the inner and outer boxes. The inner box was the original Squier box.
The bass arrived damaged. The top edge near the control knobs has a split in it approx. 1.5" long, the back is worse. There is damage to the edge and just around the corner, a triangular piece about 1" x 1/2" "popped off" the bass along with a smaller piece.
No other damage to the bass it was pristine.
I found the two missing pieces in the "snow storm" of styrofoam on the floor.
My "forensic analysis" showed that the package was dropped in more or less playing position. The wood is thin near the edge where the damage occurred because of the control routing.
I contacted the seller by email and text and so far no responce, The carrier -- forget it.
I feel the packaging was not as good as it seemed at first glance since the inner box was not suspended in the center of the outer box, crosswise. They were aligned corner to corner along the long edge.
I'm asking for a credit. There is no point in pursuing it other that. For now I have covered the two damaged area with white electrical tape.
The truss rod required one twist of the Allen key to set the neck relief. I played it for a couple of hours. It sounds great for having new round wounds on it. It plays very well. I have a set of flats to put on it after I'm sure it's not going back. But I'm pretty sure it's a keeper.
The very thick and brittle Polyurethane finish is loose at the damaged areas. I need to research what kind of glue to use. And rig up some kind of clamp and caul to hold the finish to the body. I'll probably go for slow-set epoxy.
Anyone have any ideas?
P.S. I feel this bass is every bit as good as the Player Jazz bass I bought last year. I just wanted a P bass. Haven't had one since the late 60s.
