Squier Classic Vibe Club (Part 3)

Ok, @friskinator and his pickguard got me digging through my pile of pickguards. Should I go back to the redder tort?

I just got a mint, literally in new condition 2016 70's CIC Classic Vibe P, plastic on pickguard, a good roadrunner gigbag, fender custom cable, Dunlop straplocks and Dunlop wide strap... owner never learned bass so he sold it to me for $220 usd.
Let me tell you: the hype is real, folks, this thing is, at least, on par with a Fender Player model. Pickup is amazing, the neck colour and feel is to die for, frets and finish are perfect, crappy pots and jack like all squiers, but I wont bother changing them for now. I have the walnut Indo 70's P (that is a great bass, but I will sell it) and the neck is very orange, almost like a fake vintage, pickup of the walnut is just ok, but playability is really great. Both necks are the same nut width, but string spacing on the CIC mass bridge is wider, so there is the sensation of a chunkier neck that for me is great but some people would prefer to change the bridge to a standard one. Thinking on changing strings but the ones it came with are really great, factory ones I think. Three days with my new bass and I'm really impressed.

I will not accept that. It's better than a Player, why better. The neck's rounded edges, the trussrod functionallity, the planimetry of the frets, the quality of tuners, all of that easily beats every Player I tried.

Congratz on your find.

The pots and jack are probably crappy cause they were never used. Before replacing them, try some contact cleaner.

Also the neck profile of the BLack CIC CV is thicker than the neck profile on the Walnut CII CV, I would bet my hands on it.

I will take that. Zero buzz or dead spots on the neck of my bass  Didn't know that trussrod and neck stability were a thing on these basses, I hope so with mine!

I said that because I think the bass comes with the little pots, haven't look at them, but they work flawless really.

I will compare them tomorrow, but you might be right, nut width is the same but maybe as you go down the neck the CIC becomes wider and thicker than the Indo walnut, besides the wider saddle spacing.

Any strings recommendation for this baby?

How bright and/or thumpy do you want it to sound?
Pickup is agressive, airy and woody, all in a good way, 70s style, with factory strings(nickel) so I think stainless steels would be too much, and I have covered my flats thing on a couple of basses, so Im thinking GHS prrssurewounds, light caliber, DR Sunbeams 45-105, they say those are low tension rounds, or maybe Ernie, cobalt flats , light tension, they say those are vey brighth flats, haven't tried them

I have a set of GHS pressurewounds and some DR Sunbeams in my bin, but I haven't used them yet, so I can't comment there.

Ernie Ball Cobalt Flats are pretty unique and interesting strings. If there is a thin, hazy area between flats and rounds, they definitely live there. For example, they were very effective in easing up a bit of the brightness of a Fender Blacktop Jazz...a very powerful, passive bass...when it was paired up with a Classic '70s reissue Jazz neck. Better still, they did it without diminishing the lower frequencies.

Since then, I've switched necks and strings. In this case, choosing Fender Pure Nickels achieved similar results...warm and deep, but still with enough growl to make me happy. :) (Bear in mind, I work with my hands all day long, so "normal" playing for me seems to be a bit more powerful than some others.)

My interest on trying the Cobalt flats is growing and growing, so this must be the time, a 45-100 set maybe, but I think I will have the factory strings on a couple of months (cant beleive they are still fresh strings being the bass from 2016)

Great looking bass!

Already did. Nut width and fretboard width at 12th and 15th, are exactly the same on the China and the Indo, BUT, the China definitely is chunkier at the back of the neck, not by so much... that, besides the wider string spacing, is great for my liking.

That's my favourite thing with CIC 70 and CIC Matt Freeman necks, they're chunky, got three of them. I never liked the CII Classic Vibe, honestly, the tint, the bad trussrods, the bad planimetry... it was all a disappointment. Yet people are happy with them... I keep my 8 CIC necks. :D

That's the exact gauge I took off my Blacktop. I have a few opened sets handy. If you like, I can sell you one for dirt cheap to try out. And, if you like them, I can part with a second, no sweat. ;)

How is that set tensionwise? Would you say that a 45-100 set is closest to a 45-105 common roundwound tension, or should I try the 40-95 for that?
A bit stiffer compare to stock Fender 7250. 45-100.
This cobalt flatwound sound crunch along with focus E string sound.
Worth to try.

Have a set on my Bacchus J since 2019, she still sound healthy on current day, especially that undying E string !!!!
