Staying off the Booze

Non-alcoholic beer for the win. I never really saw the point, I drink beer to get drunk.......I felt like a goose ordering one.......but it really hit the spot in a way that soda water or a Coke just doesn't when you're feeling like a beer. Just having a "beer" in my hand also made me feel more comfortable, the placebo effect is as good effect as any.

So now I am one of those old guys drinking the 0%. Give it a try if you want to lower your alcohol consumption.

IME and from what I've seen in others, near beer is not a good idea for the true recovering alcoholic. I don't recommend it.

This thread makes compelling reading. Cheers to all of you who have kicked the bottle or never were on it in the first place.

Personally, I never drink or do anything illicit today. It's been a decade or more. I want to be at my best at all times, and doing that is hard enough when you're straight.

I've heard a lot of people say they played/sang better while sauced but it usually left me unconvinced, like people who would claim they drove better after a couple of beers, makes no sense. Coordination and attentiveness and fine motor and such are the whole thing.

This is all to say nothing of interpersonal issues drug and drink are bound to cause. Everyone likes to appeal to the famous bands who were big and were also strung out all the time, but those are one in a million. Most of the time substance abuse ruins everything, including people.

Music is the drug for me and there's no cure for that addiction, but at least it's a healthy one. ;)

I'm not sure I get what "true recovering alcoholic" is. I get grief sometimes because I got sober without AA, whatever works, works.😎

Just saying - I've never seen near-beer NOT backfire for a full-fledged alcoholic trying to stay sober.

BTW, ever considered you may not be an alcoholic? Maybe you just don't like the affect alcohol may have on you.

OTOH, if you find yourself unable to quit alcohol on your own when you really want to, or if you find that once you start drinking, you're unable to control how much or how long you drink, maybe you're a full-fledged alcoholic.

BTW, it ain't a badge of honor. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

That's almost the exact quote I would get, FWIW, I was a never sober drunk. I didn't have a off switch.
