The hardest part about ordering a bass...

If you leave it in the box , it will take longer to heat up because the box is semi-insulated with packing.

I would take it out of the box....but ..I wouldn't play it right away.

Moisture may have condensed on the electronics when the unit is fresh inside the room and opened.

I had a stereo amp delivered just like that last week. I took it out and just left it until the metal reached room temperature and any condensation evaporated.

I didn't like the idea of firing up a dead-cold amp that may have condensate on the electronics.

I usually wait 45 mins. to an hour. The winters here on the Jersey shore can be brutal temp wise and I've never had an issue. The only thing I wait on is tuning, I usually will give it a day before I put any tension on the neck.

Back in '98 I was on my honeymoon and bought a 12 string acoustic guitar in LA and then flew to Alaska. That thing was in a plane hold for hours and then in the boot of a taxi for an hour. When I got it to our accommodation in Alyeska I let it sit in the case for well over an hour. When I finally opened the case it was still so cold that the whole thing was instantly covered in condensation all over. It concerned me a little, not knowing back then that dryness is a bigger danger to acoustic instruments than a little dampness. I did have to get the electrics serviced in 2008, but that was more likely due to living in coastal areas, and also had to get the bridge pinned as it was lifting, mainly due to the tension of 12 strings, but i've still got that guitar and it still plays brilliantly.

Beautiful looking bass too!!

Here it is. I added a shoe just to please Jeff Scott :)
I like it and it's pretty, I think it's a keeper.
I need to put some thicker strings on it, they feel a bit floppy.

I see you have included the obligatory shoes in the photo. Good boy!

I had to return a Berhinger mixer the other day. I wrapped up really carefully. At the post office, the guy threw it around like it was a block of wood. I told him it was a piece of sensitive electronic equipment. He replied "everyone is going to treat it like that". I wasn't impressed...that for me, is one of the harder things about ordering a bass!

Just let it sit for four to six hours and you should be fine. I'll +1 w/ @BIGEJ2 . Overnight might be better, but that's me. Besides, an opportunity to exercise a little self-discipline is never a complete waste. ;)
