Prodigal Wolf My daughter is a very small 7 and the bass is still a bit big for her. On a strap it doesn't fit well but sitting down she does ok. We are just starting out and I have her working on open strings and counting. It's gonna be a slow process but I bet I learn something as well.

That's so cute! She has that bass player snarl down!

That reminded me of this photo... when my son was about 3. (he's 17 now!)

Count me in! I would never have even considered an Ibanez had I not wondered into a shop in Spain and seen an SR700. Further research on the Ibanez page and a few strategically placed desktop wallpapers later, the Mrs bought me a BTB 676 for my 31st birthday :)

Great looking bass, and this pic doesn't help my GAS one little bit. I'm gonna say it one more time (I hate Ibanez marketing dept.): This gorgeous model is only available outside the US (Canada, Mexico...etc.), here in the US we get the hideous yellow/orange finish:bawl:

If anyone knows a dealer or an online store who can get this in US,it'd be great to share the info.

The Mrs got mine from a shop in Estepona in Spain (http://www.musisol.com/). Their website doesn't have everything they stock (took them 2 days to order my bass in from the supplier in Madrid). Price paid was 709 Euros but we got the 16% tax back once we exported it out of the country (so around $834/£524).

Hope that helps

My baby, the SR705. Plays like a dream and I absolutely love the transparent black design. Currently got it equipped with Rob Trujillo signature strings that sound remarkable. This bass is fantastic for a mixture of genres.

I play rock, metal and sometimes jazzy stuff and it's pretty good for everything! Definantly my favourite bass so far.

Hey Headle,

That is so cool man!!! I think I'll buy my son a half size one then cos he's only little too!!!

My philosophy is get them interested young and give 'em all the encouragement etc etc.

FANTASTIC!!!!

Ibanez newbie question here...

I know the SR500 is a popular bass, but how different is the SR600 and up basses from it other than body color?

500s, 600s, 700s and 750s (including their 5- or 6-string variations) all have the same electronics, hardware and necks (5pc jatoba/bubinga). The only difference is body wood:

- SR500: Mahogany
- SR530: Mahogany (and 5pc maple/rosewood neck -- okay, I lied, that one's different)
- SR600: Light ash
- SR700: Mahogany w/ figured maple top
- SR750: Mahogany w/ walnut top

There's also hardware color (but seriously, who cares about that?) and what variations are available. For example, they all come in 4- or 5-string versions, but if you want a 6-string the 506 and 706 are your only choices. Likewise, if you're a lefty, it's a 500L or 505L for you.

A left-handed 6-string bass, I hear you ask? Well... No.

EDIT: In the general case, I'd say you don't gain a lot, sound-wise, from getting a non-prestige SR above the 500. But then again, the price difference isn't much either -- Thomann says the 755 costs only 70 euros more than the 505, so whatever you think looks best... If I ever get a sixer, well, the 706 is damn sexy, I gotta admit.

Thanks! :) I'd heard that the electronics are the same in the SR500 and above, so I was wondering why the increase in price. That makes more sense.

I'd like to change my 'wanderer' status with a number too please. SR885 owner for 10 years. It was the first bass I ever bought, and has taken all my ignorant handling with admirable fortitude.

Hi Guys,

I've got an RD828LE who is poorly!!! Onboard pre-amp is like spaghetti!

Any of you guys out there know if the Lo-Z pups are active or passive? Try as I have, I can't find the specs.

Need to know what new pre-amp I can put onboard that they'll work with so I can get rid of all the junk that previous owner placed on her.

Any info and/or suggestions always welcome.

Cheers Guys and Keep Rockin';)

Chris

I believe the model is a GSRM 20 Its a Mikro. I am teaching my daughter Bass and she's only 7 and tiny. Its a 28.6 inch scale with a 3/4 sized body. All passive and thumpy for days. I keep threatening my band with it. One Sunday morning I'm gonna show up with it and they won't know what to do. I love it. It's like playing a baritone guitar with the correct amount of strings and spacing. You can really burn up the fretboard, and they're only $170 new.

Thanks, I was thinking about doing the same thing when my daughter gets a few years older. Looks like it fits her fairly well. My son is now 8 and he has a 3/4 sx that fits him pretty good. He has had it for a year. Didn't know Ibanez made a short scale though.

I have that same beast, except with 6 strings, its is an amazing bass indeed.

And here is my SRX500:
