Not a stupid question as many short scale basses require longer strings. Those usually have trapeze style bridges. The little Junior Jets have a bent metal Fender style bridge so short scale strings will work the best.
Not a stupid question IMHO since I found the array of string choices to be a bit overwhelming.I just purchased a Gretsch Guitars Limited -Edition Electromatic Junior Jet Bass II Short Scale FSR Ocean Turquoise G2229B.
This is my first short-scale bass. I want to put flats on this bass. This may be a stupid question, but should I get short-scale or long-scale flat strings?

You have two choices (cue doomsday music...):Hey team, I'm unfortunately going to have to leave the club as I sold my G2220 and don't own a Gretsch anymore any specific thing I need to do or person to contact?
Haha you're right I may come back someday, plus I enjoy following this thread... Sorry world and humanityYou have two choices (cue doomsday music...):
1) Remain in "da club" as a fan, and consider owning another Gretsch someday.
2) Cure the common cold, resolve all wars, eliminate pollution, then present evidence of your accomplishments and ask to be removed.
I'd choose #1 if I were you.

Yes, I have been and will continue to. I have looked at the Artec but the poles dont line up. There are different opinions on if that matters.Gibson T-bird, Artec and Seymour-Duncan are all possibilities. But have you watched eBay for a while? Lots of things come around.
I've only come across Filtertron 5400 which look to be for a guitar rather than a bass. 6 poles. If a Gretsch Filtertron shows up, that might work too.
Bit late to the party here, but just for the sake of knowledge, when I had my G2220 (Junior JET II Short Scale) I put on some D'Addario Tapewound ETB92S that fit perfectlyI just purchased a Gretsch Guitars Limited -Edition Electromatic Junior Jet Bass II Short Scale FSR Ocean Turquoise G2229B.
