Ooohh! Gorgeous 'ray. Love the color. Perfect vertical grain. Passive, too. Just how I like them.
Quickly becoming my favorite. Easy to play with a great neck. Super light, very punchy, sits just right in the mix. It is an awesome bass.Nice! How do you like the EB Music Man shortie?

The ball ends are brass, so I think you've nailed it. Thanks!
Yes, I did. I can't string ALL of my basses with La Bella DTFs.I ordered a U5 fretless and have it on the way. Did you end up keeping the factory D'Addario ECB81S strings that come with it?
Those woods are gorgeous wowYes, I did. I can't string ALL of my basses with La Bella DTFs.
Keep an eye on this space for an upcoming NBD (New Basses Day) post. I have just ordered a Mayones Cali 4 and a Cali 5, 17" scale basses made from leftover wood that was too good to discard. They are strung with thinner gauge strings and tuned an octave higher than normal basses with the open EADG equal to the normal 12th fret EADG. The first 5er I chose was sold by the time I picked it, but I think my 2nd choice will look great once the hardware is installed. I'm looking forward to: a) how they sound on their own, b) how they sound through my E-H Micro POG with the sub-octave cranked up, and c) how they work with JamOrigin's MIDI Guitar 3 (still in beta).
Congrats on the Ignition Bass! I got a great online deal on a violin Ignition during Covid, and never looked back. I replaced the marked truss rod cover with an unmarked one, removed the pick guard, and replaced the cheap stock strings with proper LaBella Deep Talkin' flatwound strings for Beatle Bass. Together with its fully hollow bodied construction, it has close to the authentic sound of the 1960s Hofners. It's not a bass for every setting or musical situation, but lightweight, and a must-have in your bass arsenal. Have fun! After a couple of near misses, I am about to be eligible to join! I now own a Hofner Club Ignition. I'll make the last steps of taking and posting a picture when I get a chance, probably on Monday.
I love it. The shorter length and the low weight feel much more comfortable than the regular scale Yamaha I've been using. What's most surprising to me (as a newbie) is just how different the sound is. It has flats on, the first time I've used them, even including noodling in shops, and I hear the "thump" that Hofners always seem to get described as having.
I now have three basses (a Kala U-bass along with the Yamaha and Hofner), which is probably two more than I need. They're all so different, I intend to keep and use them all and then maybe move one on once my preferences are clearer. I was lucky enough to have some funds for a frivolous purchase at the same time this came through used at my localish music store, which is why I went for this rather than the previous plan of trading the Yamaha for a Gretsch or Squier short-scale.
Nice save. Yes, if one has patience, a steady hand and trust in yourself you can save an otherwise costly re-fin issue. You just have to watch out for Cyanoacrylate (CA) glue though, it can burn a white fog in a finish. If I want to be 100% certain I won't wreck an otherwise save repair (like yours ) - I use diluted wood glue as it's water-based, bonds, drys clear and excess is easily wiped away with a damp rag/sponge. "Super-glue"I recently picked up the Paranormal Rascal in Sherwood Green. Very nice bass but I thought it would look great with Lollipops. So, I ordered a set of Hipshot USA Ultra-lites and installed them. Very happy with the way they look but the install was not without an issue. See pic.

When something you've done dozens or more times suddenly turns into one of those oh crap moments! These basses have a thick finish but it IS delicate as you can see. Time for repair as the washers for the tuners won't fully cover the ouch. The missing chunk of finish was still in one piece so I grabbed the super glue.

As you can see the end result looks great. If you don't look too close you can't tell it's been repaired. There's just something about the Coronado style headstock that looks great with Lollipops and Fender did install them on some Coronado basses.
