Tube Preamp/DI Sound Samples — Noble, Oracle, P-15, Super Stack, REDDI, Tonecraft, Jule...

I don't know about the SB Venus Z, but my sound guy and band love the sound with my Khan. I run my Stomp into it with the "Regal" preamp, some comp, and I use a couple effects. Used it for 2 gigs and a practice.
Had you tried the Finally? If so, what’s the difference you hear between that and the Kahn that you like better?

I’ve had both. Own the Khan(actually 2 of them). The Finally is a decent DI if you use an isolated power supply. It’s better to me used with a low gain tube and run clean or just on the edge. I find the overdrive a bit aggressive. The Khan just sounds flat out great. It adds “weight”, firmer and bigger sounding low mid range. Really slots the bass nicely in the mix.

I'm coming back to it.
I think I'll keep it separate so I can use with either board if I want to, or be able to use it by itself.
I was going to do’s mine on my board but the ins and outs aren’t exactly board friendly. I’m just leaving it off so I can use it with my DI/IEM rig, or with my SS combo amp to warm it a little as the “Thru” is also tube affected.

,

I lived with this for a while and it sounded good in my IEMS.

It really isn’t convenient for a pedalboard, that’s 100% true and why this time I think it will remain solo.

I have a sushi UA and while I’m not a huge fan of the tone it’s getting with my Spector Euro w/ dark glass tone cap onboard pre i do think the sushi is a great cheaper option on the tubed sound into a pedal. I will plug my board and bass into studio monitors or run my DI out of my genzler Magellan head Into my montiors ONLY cause I feel like it will give me a micro sample of what FOH sounds like. I notice genzler Magellan DI is amazing for class D I wanted to get his new kinetic head which I know would sound pro better with more tubes. But im hoping I can get “ that” tone with tweaking the sushi, and im looking into new basses.

My Spector euro LT has the barts and dark glass pre. So it’s a diff Spector tone an i just idk dont vibe with it. I always feel on stage it’s hitting sssooo low but I always hear FOH sounds great ab I know the genzler head makes more of a flat eq sound when running DI out.

I tried the Sushi Box UA this week via monitor as you did, but I have not tried running out of my Markbass DI. But I don't really care for the DI out of the Markbass EVO 1.

I am getting great sound out of the Sushi Box UA, but I am still learning and curious about the Neptunium or Nobelium. Would one of them sound more like a Noble or REDDI? I have the Universal Audio Solo 610 at home, and I love it! But it seems like a never-ending tone search, trying to get that studio tube sound in a pedal that would not be a Noble.

Has anyone here found a good solution for a stereo tube DI? I love my REDDI and I know they make a rack mountable stereo DI but its too big to put on a board. Anyone familiar with a pedalboard friendly, stereo tube DI so I can run my big sky in glorious stereo through the PA?

I suggest running a Khan or other DI with an effected 1/4" out into the input of the Big Sky, and then run stereo out into a Walrus Audio Canvas Stereo DI.

I did exactly this on my pedalboard when running the Meris LVX + MercuryX in stereo to FOH. Mono Tube DI before them, Stereo DI after them.

Ahh that makes sense, I just had my pedal order switched around. Thanks @MikoFX!

I feel that the genzler Magellan 800 has been solid. With the UA it’s helped a lot the DI of the Magellan head is where I think it gets a lot of my love I plug it into monitors to get a feel of what im getting FOH vs my cab and there have been times I hear my cabs thinkin its off. But the Magellan does a great job sending a flat uncolored signal to the house And so far I think that W/ the UA has helped ive had people at shows after set mention they love thr bass tone im going for. The tone from my on stage cabs to FOH are inherently diff obvi so ive Been experimenting with maybe micn up a 10” sn if s soundman is with jt blending

Love my Edison. I also have Sushi Box More - prefer the Edison’s flexibility while preferring the top mount jacks on the More. I so wish the Edison inputs were at the top and the controls on the face plate - it’s tricky to fit efficiently on my board.
Placement can be tricky but well worth it once you make it work.
