What are your favorite basses that you got for $700 or less?

Most of my basses are in the sub-$500 range so I won't bother with them here. However, I've got two keepers that were between 5 and 7 bills.

My Cherryburst 55-01 (MIK, purchased used) is a really lovely bass. Though I will be swapping in some Chi-Sonics at some point, I could play it stock forever and never feel let down. It's played many gigs and always nails it and shortly will be my only 5-er. Though more of a "modern" bass, it fits my preferences for classic styling and wider nut spacing.

The bass below is not mine. However, mine is identical except that it has better grain and no obvious lines between the body pieces.

The second, my Decade'ish frankenbass just barely squeaked in at under $700 in parts, though it would surely be more expensive today. This is by far my most unique bass and probably my favorites as well.

It's a bit of an odd duck with a Peavey t-40 neck and a custom body, but she sounds wonderful and I think she's beautiful.

I got a black Fender USA std P for $650, a Yamaha Attitude Custom (1981 Japan) for $600 something, a Yamaha RBX 270 for $200 something, an Ibanez Roadster II fretless (1979 Japan) for $500, a couple of Fernandez Atlas (Japan) both for $250. There are more but these are the ones I like.

My '74 Precision cost around $300 with case. I bought it new, so it doesn't really count. I've modified it considerably through the years and it's still one of my favorite basses for recording and gigs. Back then the only basses that cost over $700 were probably Alembics.

I have a MIM Fender Jazz fretless that I paid $300 for. I like it, but I don't know if I'd call it a favorite. It gets the job done. All my other basses are extended range basses that cost more than $700.

Purchased brand new and even with upgrades still comes in under $700. Thought about selling it but probably never will. This is the bass I referred to on page #1. We've been through a lot together. And it's red!

I picked up this Moon Jazz off of CL. Replaced the Barts with Sadowsky singles and it's my third favorite bass and does see gig time.

This is my favorite gigging bass I picked up at a pawn shop. I've had work done to it, but it still comes in well under the $700 mark. Pedulla Rapture
Very light and it has a sweet P Bass tone.

All of them, save for one. And the only reason that particular bass broke the $700 mark was on account of shipping costs from Tokyo to the U.S. (a pre-owned CIJ 75RI Jazz). My last three acquisitions have all been used basses.

The best deal I've ever gotten on a bass was my Steinberger. It is a XP-2/AE #1010. AE stands for the pickups. This model was shipped to the U.S. with passive EMG's. However, this one is a limited edition with active Alembic pickups. It sold for 198,000 yen. I bought it at a half-price sale, and the dollar to yen rate was better than it is now. So a $2000.00 bass for $700.00 ain't a bad deal. Cheers. ;^D.
