I say it turns on his neighbors bedroom light.... really pisses them off.
It's the 'Garage Band Switch': They're out there banging away in the garage, and his 12 year-old sister is watching the street. When they neighbors have had it 'up to here' from hearing a terribly mangled 'Welcome to the Jungle' for the 9th time, when sis sees the PoeLeese come 'round the corner, that shuts the garage door and they stop till he's gone.
The pickguard is common as dirt. Your music store, Amazon, ebay. Here's your chance to express your personality, except, if it isn't tortoiseshell, you're wrong.
Honestly I'm not familiar enough with Squier P basses to give you a solid answer. My gut says finding one shouldn't be hard- but I am looking into it...slow here at work.
That switch engages the Flux Capacitor.... duh.
Its a talent switch. Looks like its in the "off" position....
My theories, in no particular order:
• Detunes signal a semitone
• Activates built-in metronome
• Changes pickup from passive to passive-aggressive
• Engages hand-warmers
• Plays high-pitched frequency to drive away teens
• Shifts from drive to reverse
• Activates tiny robot hand that automatically turns switch back off
• Signals for help
• Cruise control
• Turns safety off
• Activates “Try Me” mode (bass only plays factory demo)
• Oven light on/off
• Pete Wentz mode (mutes strings A-G)
• Bass switches from dominant to submissive
• Tambura drone
• True Bypass
• Activates gyroscope
• Bass currently haunted, y/n
• Self destruct
• Switches between AC and DC
• Nothing, it was a test of character all along
• Kill switch but for guitarist
• Portamento on/off
• Vibrate

I don't know, but I'm not touching it.
That's the switch of a string demagnetizer. Fender experimented with it in the late 80's, on a series of Squier P-Basses.

Looks like a rocker switch that lights up when activated and stays dark when not. In which case, if the switch is dark then you know the guy's off his rocker.
