What's your rig of choice for this weekend? Part 2.

We have another brew-pub gig coming up, I think i'm going with this setup.
we played there a few weeks ago and I played an Aguillar AG500SC into a GK212 Neo. I love the sound from that rig but, it's a little big for the space and I had a difficult time hearing myself because i was basically standing directly in front of the cabinet due to the small stage. it apparently sounded great in the room but for me, it was an issue.
enter this rig. i've had the kickback 210 for a little while. it typically lives at home, stacked on a 115 and used in bi-amp mode with the Fusion 550. i like the idea of being able to hear myself so i thought aiming the cabinet more at my head would help.... the angle of the top of the cabinet presented an issue though. several ways to go about dealing with it i guess but i came up with this. an inexpensive and, seemingly effective, solution. i "custom" bent a piece of 1/8" steel rod from the TSC up the street ($5). it's not the prettiest solution but it seems to work well. i shook the setup around and played through it at higher levels to see if the amp moves. it does not. i may even paint the rod to give it a nice "finished" look....
i admit it's pretty redneck, but it's not stupid if it works...right?

Corporate gig this past Monday. I forgot to take a photo of my rug or the stage, but grabbed this one mid-set. It was a cool tent that felt more like a permanent structure.

Two gigs already got cancelled this month last minute. No more gigs until December and then no more gigs with this band until February (assuming the BL doesn’t take them away). But I have a couple of great auditions coming up. No need to jinx anything by posting details - of course if I get a new gig I’ll be posting…

Do you play it upside down? It is a Jaguar, right?
Yes, it's the first year they were available in the US Japanese model, Very thin neck (think similar to a Geddy Lee). I don't believe any of the following models have a neck similar to these or the "jazz" pickup setup. I'm a lefty that learned on a right haned bass back in the 70's. To this day I restring my actual lefty basses right handed or I can't play them. :D

Very cool I am a lefty but have to play right handed. I can't seem to play a lefty bass. i know lots of other left handed people who play righty too. Best example is the great Jorma Kaukonen. Wasn't till I met him at his guitar camp that I found out he is a lefty also!!

I played violin as a kid (very badly) but got used to fretting with left hand and couldn't break the habit when I started playing bass and guitar!!

I think the great Albert King played lefty with an upside down right handed guitar strung normally as right handed so you are in good company!!!

My bands play moderate volume gigs fairly regularly, and I've already soloed the NXV210 at one. Sounds great, and has plenty of heft.

Unfortunately my gigs are often too loud for a 2x10, so the NXV112 will get its share of work. Of course it's a great match for the 2x10.

When I joined the headless club I had to find an alternative to my Hercules hanging stands. That mini stand was my choice, and I love how compact it is.

Is nxv112 louder than the nxv210 ??

Jimmy Haslip and Scott Kuss are probably the best known bassists that play this way.

TBH, I don't know. I typically run 210 with 212, a Jim Bergantino approved combo (sounds great to me). I soloed the 210 at one gig, but have never A/B'd 210 vs 112 directly. If I have time next gigs (11/29 and 11/30) I will give that a try and let you know.

I'm interested in your thoughts.
I recently got a 112. A 312 would be overkill for most anything I do, but of course I could run it with the 210.
Last gig I chickened out and just used my standard 212 - but I think I'm committing to the 210/112 at the next gig.

Ok thanks. The way I interpreted your post was I thought you where say the 12 was louder or better in your louder band mix. ? I always thought as a stand-alone the two drivers would be louder or cut between than a single 12. Just curious currently.

I must have misspoken... happens too often! First impressions are that 210+112 is a nicely balanced setup. It makes sense that the 2x10 would be a smidge more efficient, but the question is, how noticeable to human ears?

Punch/cut comes more from cabinet design than in speaker size. F'r instance the Reiner 112 has more punch than the Berg NXV210 (and 112). I'll have to see what tonal difference there is between Berg 210 and Berg 112.
