Wife Doesn’t Know

Just tell her you got it for her, or even better, be honest and take whatever she dishes as a lesson in the importance of communication between husband and wife when it comes to domestic tranquility.

When I buy a bass, it comes into the house in parts. A neck from Warmoth. A body from Warmoth. A bridge. Pickups. Neck plate. Knobs. Electronics. Tuners. I suppose I could hide some of the stuff, but boxes from Warmoth are pretty undisguisable. Plus, once the parts get in the house, it's a few weeks in the shop. A body hanging up to dry for a week, with the smell of poly finish wafting all over the house, is pretty tough to ignore.

So, I tell her. Seems to work OK. And I don't abuse the priviledge.

Well, maybe a little.

So, Friday night (Saturday early hours) after a long week and a few glasses of fine Kentucky (as if there were some other kind) bourbon I decided to give in to my urges of lust.

This sexy, long, lean and aggressive black beauty of a bass begged me to give her a home so, I put in the online order and now, I anxiously await her arrival.

I come to all of you, my trustworthy and experienced brothers and sisters of the bass world for advice.

My challenge is:
A) should I tell her about this affair before my new love arrives or wait until she’s living under the same roof?
B) when she finds out should I be under the same roof or do it from afar (text, phone, snail mail)?
C) should I just not engage the topic and just hide her and only bring her out to play when the wife is away?

Ohhhh, how do I get myself into these situations?!:banghead:
Actually the last time I walked into the house with a new bass still boxed up my Lady looked at me sideways like Bruce Lee...

Tell her you ordered by mistake and you'll return it if she wants you to.

BE DIRECTLY UPFRONT WITH YOUR SPOUSE ABOUT GEAR PURCHASES. I never hid 'em, but she never asked, and then a few years later I had to explain, while refinancing our house, why I had a $3000 credit card balance. Thankfully my wife is the forgiving type and has an expensive life calling herself, she wasn't mad, but it was something we had to deal with in the real world of money and she should have been prepared going in. Because that was something we had to explain. You do not want to have to ever explain ANYTHING to a bank when asking them for money.
