Zoom b3 patch Ideas

Hello, all. I just want to say that I still love my B3! I have no plans of getting rid of it anytime soon because it suits my needs better than any more modern multieffects I've come across. That being said, my unit is chock full of custom patches but this one I have found to be the most useful on a wide variety of basses so if I'm going to contribute anything, it's this. Hope at least one person finds this usable. :D

GROWL LOW COMP
------------------------------
EFFECT 1: 160 Comp (Threshold -7, Ratio 3.0, Gain 6, Knee: Soft, Level 50)

EFFECT 2: Bass Drive (Bass 3, Treble 2, Presence 4, Gain 10, Blend 30, Level 40,
Mid 8)

EFFECT 3: Hrt-3500 (Bass 3, Mid 4, Treble 2, Mid_F 800Hz, Tube 60, Level 100, Comp: Off, Cab: 4X10 HA, Mix 50

PS.... This same patch sounds very good if you lower the threshold and raise the ratio on the compressor if you want a tighter sound but the above version gives pretty decent dynamics.

I haven't been following this thread as close as I could, but I figured out how to make the pitch shifter sound OK on my B3 for me.

Step one: set the interval. I used +24.

Step B: set the fine tune to +10 or so. Play with it to see what sounds best. This is necessary unless you like it atonal.

Step iii: Set the dry to 100, and set the pitch level to 1, 2, or 3, depending on the tone level. Any higher is just a lot; too much for me.

I've tried to use this a few times in the past, and its so harsh I assumed it wasn't worth the effort, but I decided to give it a go again and dug this out. It's not great, but if you need a doubler or a fifth it's not awful.

So, just in order to keep the thread alive, here are the two clean comp settings I've been using:

PATCH 1 (aptly named CleanComp1 in my B3):
EFFECT 1: Limiter. Settings: THRSH 15, Ratio 5, Level [whatever you want], REL 10.
EFFECT 2: Graphic EQ. Settings: [In order of frequency] 6, 3, 2, 0, 2, 4, 6, Level [whatever you want].
EFFECT 3: HRT-3500 Bass 6, Mid 4, Trebl 4, Mid_F 350Hz, Tube 60, Level [whatever you want], Comp 1, Mix 50.

PATCH 2 (aptly named CleanComp2 in my B3):
EFFECT 1: Graphic EQ. Settings: [In order of frequency] 5, 3, 2, 0, 2, 4, 6, Level [whatever you want].
EFFECT 2: 160 Comp. Settings: THRSH -20, Ratio 3.0, Gain 8, Knee: hard, Level [whatever you want].
EFFECT 3: FlipTop. Settings: Bass 4, Mid 1, Trebl 3, Mid_F 350Hz, Gain 61, Level [whatever you want], Ultra: Off, Mix 60.

I came up with these trying out different cabsims and testing whether I got better results with the EQ before of after the compression. Given the two options above, I would mots likely go with the second one, though the first also sounds very decent to my ears. In case it matters, I was trying to get a subdued, low-end, growl-free tone more or less in the style of early Fates Warning Records. I've been enjoying myself playing tracks from Perfect Symmetry and A Different Shade of Grey with the settings above.

Just sharing some love to all those who have submitted patches over the years of this thread. I'm one of those SVT owners who (unfortunately) suffers from back issues and I just don't want to pack that bad boy around every weekend! I have used my B3 as my preamp for about 3 years now and I still get comments about my tone. I love that I can have my rig in a shoulder bag (I actually have 3 B3's, just in case one gives up the ghost). For a cover band veteran, I am grateful that I can practice my set list, pick through all the patches in my library, and almost always find a REALLY close tone. My pedalboard consists of my tuner, a Radial Big Shot I/O for switching basses, and my B3.

Anyway, thanks to all of you (particularly Crystalman85 for his prodigious input), and I hope that someone even has latched on to one of the patches I've uploaded as well. (Note: I hope this thread never goes away, because I save all the patches by their post number so I can refer back if need be).

I only use the ampeg svt model for that sound sample when I recorded. but since you asked, this is the setting I did if I remember correctly.

SVT: bass:4, mid:2, treble:3, midfq:350hz, gain:45, level:50, ultra:low, cab:ag8x10, mix:50

The night I recorded that sound sample, I put the ampeg model on section 3 of the patch. so for the first 2 sections of the patch, you can add what ever additional effect you want. rather if it's a compressor, a limiter, a modulation effect, or a distortion effect, feel free to add whatever effect you desire. hopefully this would help you out. give it a shot and see how it sounds with your rickenbaker bass.

Crystalman85, I STILL use the heck out of this patch! We recently added some Supertramp onto our set and this (of course) does a GREAT job of emulating my SVT without having to tote that bad b****!

I am a big fan of John Myung tone, and I extremely amazed with the tone he make in s2n intro on Distance Over Time album

I know the tone mostly comes from the bongo itself, but anyone here maybe could tell me how to replicate that intro tone on B3 or B3n? thanks in advance

I took a listen to the bass sounds of those songs and I would say that the psycho killer bass tone sounds like an acoustic bass amp with a low warm distortion. the brian wilson bass tone seems simple. to me, it sounds like a smooth warm bass sound. here's what I came up with for the sounds you're looking for.

Psycho killer

Section 1: znr: thresh: 17, detect: gtrln, level: 100

Section 2: bass bb: gain: 10, bass: 5, treble: 4, blend: 40, level: 80

Section 3: acoustic: bass: 4, mid: 7, treble: 3, midfq: 500hz, gain: 45, level: 90, bright: off, cab: ac1x18, mix: 50

Smooth warm bass

Section 1: m comp: thresh: 25, ratio: 7, level: 90, attack: 7

Section 2: bottom b: bass: 5, treble: 4, level: 50

Section 3: acoustic: bass: 4, mid: 5, treble: 4, midfq: 450hz, gain: 40, level: 90, bright: off, cab: ag8x10, mix: 50

I'm loving going through and finding some of these patches. Crystalman85, good job on this smooth warm bass patch. The band commented this patch fits REALLY well in our mix.

hey b3 fans and experts, hoping I could get some help dialing in a good tone. I'm looking to emulate the 70s/80s synth bass sound, think Chameleon, Parliament's Flash Light, etc. I found a good tutorial from Scott's Bass Lessons, and they said using a mix of Octave, Fuzz, Envelope Filter, and Chorus can emulate that kind of tone.

So, I've been messing around and I'm getting close, but still not 100% happy with it.

The best combo I have so far is 1: Oct&Dist, 2: Auto Wah or Z tron (flip flopping), and 3. Stereo Chorus. Any ideas on how to best make these patches work together for that sound, or other ideas? This is for a cover gig, so I'm not too worried, but want to get close to that sound for some of the tunes. I dunno if it is the distortion that I can't dial in right... maybe using one of the fuzz pedals with a lower gain will better emulate the square wave sound? I haven't had any success with the synth patches

Settings:

1. Oct & Dis
Oct: 75; Gain: 0; Level: 100; Dry:20; Tone:65; Chain: Before

2. AutoWah
Sense: 5; Reso: 0; Dry: 0; Level: 80

3. StereoCho
Depth: 99; Rate:20; Mix: 75; Lowcut: 180k; Level: 100

I'd try the octave with no dist and then a light fuzz in the 2nd block. That octave has a pretty dirty sound. I'm not hearing much envelope in flashlight, but I'm using bad speakers.

A para eq might be the better tool to find the right tone in that octave, also.

Here's another patch idea I've come up with. this patch has a warm overdrive sound that totally rocks.

Warm rock bass

Section 1: any effect you want

Section 2: t-scream: gain:40, tone:45, level:80, balance:40

Section 3: acoustic: bass:3, mid:-2, treble:1, midfq:450hz, gain:45, level:90, char: off, cab:swr4x10, mix:58
Amazing how many good tones I still find here (thanks, Crystalman!). My band decided to throw together a few songs by Cream and this patch works great with my jazz bass to nail the Jack Bruce tone. I'm playing around with how I can get that tone from Apostrophe, so far I think I am doing better by driving the SuperB amp than bumping the gain on the t-scream. (This was on post #5 on this thread to find that patch.)

Can anyone come up with the solution for something that sounds like The Jive - just the saturation, not with the overdrive engaged?

I would be very grateful, thanks you!

I'd try different overdrives available, mostly the less gainy. Off the top of my head, the BASS DRIVE (SansAmp), the T SCREAM (Tubescreamer -don't remember if it goes as low gain as necessary-) or the BASS BB (Xotic) should get you close. Also make sure to play with the blend control on each, lots of flavour variation there too.

Hello, Im from Argentina, I would like to know if ithere is a good patch to sounds like Diego Arnedo of the Band Divididos? He is one of the best rock bass players in Argentina since 1989. The last song is cabalgata deportiva.
He uses 4 svt and 2 marshall in daisy chain and 4 8x10 ampeg. With a lot of pre and post processing. And his legendary jazz bass with a precision neck
