(Dr Bass/Marc Serio)-cab builder accepted >$10k in payments, never delivered gear

Click on the link I posted and it will direct you to page 61, post number 1214, from November 29, 2021, that reads:

"Looks like I might be the latest victim So, bummed I didn't look into his history deeper before my huge mistake."

So, yeah, looks pretty recent.
Ah, sorry and thanks again for persevering with me. This thread should definitely remain sticky in that case.

I hardly got anything for mine because of this thread. I told people here that's it's going to hurt people who want or have to sell their cabs later, yet here we are.

This is unfortunate, and I feel bad for folks in this situation. Alas, it is what happens when a merchant engages in shady business practices.

As an unrelated example, remember when Volkswagen had the emissions scandal in 2015? Immediately after that news broke, used VW diesels dropped significantly in value (and not the affected vehicles, cars from 5 or 10 years prior). Clearly the folks who bought those cars, paid them off, and maintained them don't deserve to be punished for the company's misgivings... especially when their vehicles weren't even affected... but it's happened. Plain and simple... cheating/stealing doesn't affect a single person, it affects many.

Again, I really do feel for the folks who had good experiences with Dr. Bass and are now adversely affected by this debacle. It's not fair to them. However, I don't think this thread is the cause of the used downturn... I think it's Serio's unethical business practices.

I agree but wonder if he's mended his ways as the examples in this thread aren't recent?

I sincerely doubt it.

I've always wondered what is the lure of his products that draws people to them like they're exclusive over a variety of readily available store bought enclosures. I mean, it's a speaker in a box for pity sakes...
What's supposedly so special about them?

Good specs at a good price. I was surprised when I looked at the site at the variety of his offerings. If it seems to good to be true.....etc.

It seems like every couple years, someone comes across this thread and asks if this is still happening.

I realize it's a genuine question and nobody means to be disrespectful, but the question is effectively twisting the knife in the wound of those who are still owed. It strikes a nerve every time. I'll just say this... look at the title of this thread and look at the list of TB'ers still owed (link below). Even if some of those folks have a debt that's over a decade old, a few have been made whole, and occasional orders have been delivered since... is that okay with you?

I really hope this doesn't come off as harsh towards those asking. I get it. But there's something I've learned in my years, if something looks too good to be true... it probably is. I'm not telling anyone what to do, it's your money and your decision. I just don't want to see any more names added to the list above.

Hey all, sorry for the late reply but, I actually bugged him enough to finally get my cabinet. Everytime I emailed it was a different excuse as to why it was taking so long. I kept on him every other week sometimes every week for about 3 months. It arrived yesterday and it is exactly what I ordered plus some extra upgrades. I really can't believe it and feel very fortunate to have not gotten the shaft. I'll post some pics in the next couple of days if anyone is interested? Thanks for the support and advice You guys rock!

Glad you got your cab. In reality, you got three or four months of shaft…

Sorry, you are blaming the wrong side for the downgrade in value of your cab.
It is Dr. Bass himself that devalues his cabs, NOT this thread.

It takes more than just a quality product to keep value.

Why does Mesa hold their value?
The customer service and people behind the company.

Why does Dr. Bass not hold their value?
The customer service and people behind the company.

Notice that the answers are Exactly the same.

If I were in the market for a cab and the sepcs looked good, I could care less about the backstory unless it is stolen equipment. Not everyone would devalue a piece of gear because of a TB thread. I suspect it has more to do with the brand being little known. This thread is the first I've heard of this brand, and though I wouldn't buy new and suffer like everyone else, I would certainly buy used knowing I'll get the cab.

This thread outlived its usefulness years ago. It's also defied its original purpose. And don't compare a huge company to a small cab builder. It's like comparing Olive Garden to a small, family-owned pizza joint.

Bad analogy. The small, family owed pizza joint's I've been to are less expensive with better food and service than Olive Garden.
