(Dr Bass/Marc Serio)-cab builder accepted >$10k in payments, never delivered gear

What, to you, makes this an old worthless thread?

What is it you're seeking to gain by call this thread old and worthless?

Well if his posting history in this thread is any indication he's been more or less defending this crook for over a decade, so I can understand his frustration at being ignored.

If ANYONE reading this believes the issue has been resolved or that everyone has been taken care of, it has not and they have not. If someone is interested in a bass cabinet that isn't from the "big box" boys, DO YOUR HOMEWORK! Ask questions! Read threads(like this one)BEFORE you spend dime one! When Marc was the "thing of the moment", i drank that kool aide and paid for it. Never again! This thread must stay exactly where it is. As a research tool for anyone in the market for a cabinet. Please, research before you buy! Money is something we all work hard for and these days, its becoming harder to get.

For the record, I'm still waiting for a 2-12 cab from God knows how long ago! Fortunately I was able to write it off on my business as a loss and got some small value out of it. Not everyone is in that position. Also, I'm not exactly waiting anymore. Maybe if Elvis or Jimmy Hoffa knock at my door, I'll believe in miracles.

And don't compare a huge company to a small cab builder. It's like comparing Olive Garden to a small, family-owned pizza joint.
Ok, Genzler Amplification.

I can message and Mr. Genzler will call or email me or any other customer within two days.
He even answers questions on Sundays.
They are only a few people.

Want smaller, Genz-Benz, it is just Mr. Agedhorse and they have been out of business for almost 10 years. :sorry:
Yet, we can still get an amp serviced and returned in LESS than two weeks.

Many small companies and builders on this site.
Do not read about Revesound, Bareface and AdioKinesis (when Duke was building) not responding or piling on excuses for delays, or just not delivering.
Their threads are positive experiences with the products as well as with the builder, that is why they hold a value.

Where are the, "Just had a great experience buying a cab from Dr.Bass" threads?
They are few or do not exist for a reason.

Again, the customer service and people behind the company is what keeps or depreciates the value of their product.

Volkswagen made their diesel vehicles worthless by their actions not their customers or a few people on a website.

Spare me your lectures. Dr. Bass was strong on this site and in magazines for at least 6 years before the wheels started coming off in 2009, so he wasn't in business to rip people off. The first thread here was in 2003 and the reviews about the cabs and service were GLOWING all the way until 2009. The updated list shows he made good on at least 10 members after the meltdown so it's not like he made no effort. As for service, he fixed a tweeter for me the day he got it and sent it back the next day, on his dime. This happened AFTER this thread was created. There's simply no benefit to this thread anymore.

Let see. You have been "taken care of" by the Dr., so that means all is good in the world now with all those who have not been taken care. Um, okay. :rollno:

As for Volkswagen's, I'll buy one in a minute because they outsmarted the Green Mafia for years. Those diesels were good engines. The people who went after them are the people wrecking the economy now. Class dismissed.
I think you have missed the entire point.

This thread should serve as a reminder to do your due diligence BEFORE paying for anything. While "past performance doesn't guarantee future results", it can certainly provide insight into a person's, or a company's moral values and how they might treat a customer when things aren't all roses and rainbows.

It takes a lot of work, effort and moral values to do the right thing over the long haul, and to everyone who does so, I applaud you. A few years (or even six years) is nothing compared with 13 years of poor follow-through. You can't just look at the lucky ones who received what they paid for, because there's no way to know it you will be a lucky one once you pay. Buying gear shouldn't be like playing the lottery, you pay your money and you get your gear... period.

When Fender and KMC shut down Genz Benz in 2014, there were some frank discussions about doing the right thing for the customer over the long haul, even in the face of adversity. I was in fact a little surprised, but what it showed is that the people behind those companies backed up the "doing the right thing" talk by actually doing the right thing. I have had lots of discussions with TB members here over the last 15+ years, most surprised that as full support (including most factory parts and repair labor) as I can provide is still freely available. This moral compass is what attracted me to start working for Genz Benz over 30 years ago and is something that Jeff and I see 100% eye to eye on to this day. There are plenty of others in the industry, both small and large, who follow similar paths (maybe not quite so personal, but it's just me so you get what you get) and I encourage you guys to support those companies that in effect support you by doing the right thing.

So this showed up in my Facebook newsfeed today from one of the groups I belong to. Notice I caught it 53 minutes after it was posted. So definitely done today.

Shouldn't he be shipping this to someone he already owes a cab too?

As sad as this is to see, it's a pattern we've seen time and time again from Serio. I remember years ago when a couple TB'ers returned cabs due to damage during shipping. Serio would receive them, list them in the scratch/dent section of his website, sell them at a reduced price, then fail to provide a refund (or new cabinet) to the person who originally ordered it. I'm guessing those folks' names remain on the long list of "still owed" even to this day. It's really depressing to relive it yet again.

It is sad to see. Apparently Serio doesn't care. He's listed that stuff under his own name in about 10 different groups for selling gear. And he doesn't care who knows it. A fellow TBer even left a comment on the cabs with a link to this thread. It was still there as of late last night, with no reply from Serio of course.

How are people making the payments? You can get some buyer protection paying through PayPal if you mark it as a purchase. I've never had to make a claim, but I would never make any online purchase without some kind of buyer protection.

I have a few boutique cabs from other builders, but I bought them used. One reason for that is because I've always been a bit hesitant to put a deposit down, even with the reputable builders. It's not that I think they'd do anything dishonest, but things happen, people get sick, accidents happen--maybe the good builders have backups in place ready to issue refunds? Idk, I really prefer to just buy something ready to ship and through a trusted platform when it comes to cabs. Sorry, that was a bit of a digression from the main topic.

I'd like to know more, please. I recently bought a Magellan preamp which I am very happy with, and have been impressed with the MG350 10" combo. Just curious about Fender and KMC (whoever they are) involvement.

There is no involvement by Fender or KMC with Genzler.

Nor, was there any involvement between them and Marc Serio/Dr. Bass. Why is this in this thread?

Aged horse mentioned that Fender and KMC shut down Genz Benz, and I was curious, that’s all.
My past comments were addressing customer service in general, and how doing the right (or wrong) thing is a choice in the examples I gave.
