They'll do this from time to time, but seldom with their basses under $1,000!

I put anywhere between $1,000-$2,000 into savings each month, will have the remainder of my student loans paid off within the next year and so far have about 4 months of emergency savings in the bank in case I lost my job, have zero credit card debt...and I own some fairly pricey acoustics, a couple basic electrics (SG, two Teles) and a few P basses ranging from MIM to MIA), so you can generalize all you want.
However, you see it pretty frequently where someone posts their "family portrait" pics where people are loaded up with Squiers and what not, then complain that high end basses are too expensive or overpriced, when they could have just stopped buying all the lower end stuff and bought one or two higher quality instruments.
I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with owning cheaper instruments. Far from it, and as we all know, cheap doesn't automatically mean crap. I'm more referring to the guy who starts a thread like this whining about how a matching headstock only exists in the $1,000+ price range when they might very well own a Buch of basses already.
And for the record, I played one of these earlier in the year and it was a great instrument. And was priced WAY under a grand, but maybe the OP is just a label snob.

In Europe a decent musician would not touch an instrument under $3000. ... In America that's nearly unheard of because they're happier with cheap. ... Better is better but, better costs.
I agree....in America decent musicians can play cheaper instrument's and still sound good.....is this what you're saying? In Europe a decent musician would not touch an instrument under $3000. ... Not on point.I bought a new in box matching headstock Fender and the neck was bad. 6 month lead to replace
Last new Fender I’ll buy

I don't have a clue about your definition of a "decent musician", but I live in Europe (Germany) for about more than 50 years and I'm a musician for more than 30 years. And people - musicians and non-musicians - buy as many cheap and expensive stuff here as they do in the US.
I live in one of the largest cities in Germany - Hamburg - and the largest music-store here doesn't have a single bass for more than 2.000,-. (Just Music).
This is the first time I hear such a statement. As long as there are more than 200 "decent musicians" in the world, I think your statement is about 94,57% facts free.
First of all the OP was hardly whining. If that's whining then most of the topics started on this website are full-on suicidal breakdowns.
People have every right to feel some basses are overpriced, especially when they can buy one like in your picture there that are just fine. When you see a driveway with two Hyundai parked in them, do you knock on the door and let them know they could have had one Cadillac if they would have had, as you put it, more financial discipline? I find your basic premise here to be a bit absurd.
Sorry man, but if you dish it out first you should be able to take it too. I could care less about anyone's financial situation or which basses they own. Nor do i actually feel that people who buy expensive basses are irresponsible. I just figured your generalization deserved one in return.
Dirk, (is that really you name?) ... I've been a professional musician for over 45-years and I still believe $2000 is the cut off for a serious instrument. ... If your cut off is $200 I respect that. But, don't pretend it's serious. ... Personally I'd like to promote to younger players to stop settling for cheap instruments and save your money for decent, well made instruments they'll play for a lifetime. ... North America is full of cheap instruments. ... You'd be happy here.
My wife (who encourages me to play and own gear) has a dislike for non-matching head-stocks, occasionally I take that in to consideration. Since she paid for my last bass and practice amp i let her dislike non matching head-stock.

How incredibly disappointing.
Musicians must be the cheapest consumers out there. Nobody blinks about a t.v. that costs 1k and might last 6yrs or an $800.00 phone that's obsolete in 3.
A $1200.00 bass will last at least 3 generations if it's even half-way looked after. Sure, they're simple devices but if you fancy playing bass you'll need one.
Compared to fishing, motorcycles, skiing or mtn. bikes playing bass is CHEAP. Real cheap.
You really, really want a Fender with a painted headstock? Pony up I guess or try your cheap luck at Alibaba......
Happy Holidays all....
If it makes you sleep better at night to twist my words and compare Hyundais and bass guitars feel free to keep it going. Just like the OP has the right to speak his mind about certain basses being overpriced, the rest of us have that same right to chime in with our own opinions as well. Just because you get your briefs all bunched up because you may or may not agree with what I said doesn't mean I have any less right than you. Your replies make me chuckle. Seems like my replies hit a nerve.
Hit a nerve? No, it's just your BS is getting pretty deep. Make a stupid generalization, then get all innocent and offended when someone returns the favor. Too bad I didn't twist any words, you flat out said that people who buy cheap instruments are financially undisciplined.
I did, but that's because I wouldn't mind a painted headstock for less either. They only do the top anyway. Shouldn't be a huge premium for it. Isn't a deal breaker, though, so I don't care. Please, does anyone actually think this post is 100% serious?
Thanks, nan!First of all the OP was hardly whining. If that's whining then most of the topics started on this website are full-on suicidal breakdowns.
