Double Bass Problem with a Luthier (Roland/Emanuel Wilfer content)

They were supposed to make it, I don't know if they handle stock of basses, I think they are counter-ordered, but I didn't ask for special things if that's what you ask me, I suppose you ask if I asked to Wilfer for a thin neck or a thick neck, or something Special on the fingerboard or scroll or flat back plate or rounded Something like that? I didn't ask for anything special, I think this is what you are asking or am I wrong? I'm very sorry I don't understand some things because of the language gap

(While writing this message I remembered that the only thing I asked for was some high-quality machines (in an email they told me they had been put in, I don't know if that's the case, I haven't seen the bass yet)

well he did say you changed your mind multiple times regarding body shape, four vs five string, etc.

thats never happen, but it doesn't matter anymore

I have a document of authenticity sealed and signed by Wilfer but in the document they did not put the serial number or the bass model, it is empty, I hope they can send me a digital certificate.

but finally I have the bass, It came in mint condition, in the photos it is not appreciated but it has a very beautiful varnish, as well as some very good quality tuners I am happy with the quality of the bass in general is very high, a luthier will come to my house to put the bridge

The only thing I feel bad about is that I wanted things to happen differently not in this way and not have had to do this post almost 3 years ago, it was the only thing I could do, luckly I found people who gave me their help selflessly

thanks to all people who helped me and those who believed in me and also thanks to those who did not

I think at this moment this thread post can finally be deleted

I'll write Wilfer an email

Thanks to all!

Good for you that you eventually got your bass. I hope you will have as much joy playing it as you had pain while waiting for it.

But the whole story is absolutely appalling. Unless the luthier gives a credible account of his own version of it, the impression that will remain here is that of a terribly run business, no matter how good are the basses produced. How can one leave the overseas customer of a fully prepaid bass wait three years without shipping the instrument? How comes that he, apparently, only shipped the bass because someone intervened from Europe, and might otherwise have retained both the bass and the money? How can it be that the luthier is apparently not bothered by the considerable negative publicity received on the world's largest forum of bass players?

I believe that this thread would have to be closed soon, as the problem seems to be solved. But it should remain visible, so that everyone can get the information if needed.

agreed. I spoke with the luthier twice using two aliases and he was completely unsympathetic to the OPs situation and simply characterized him as annoying. Shameful and appalling behaviour.

I can say that I am very happy to have received the bass and the quality of the bass, but at the same time I have a strange feeling... more than anything because of how things turned out, I wish everything had happened differently, without all this, but I have learned many things and among them be patient, in some moments I lost my mind, in some moments I cried, in some moments I felt like giving up and leaving everything and forgetting everything completely, but today I can say that everything ended (at least for me) and I can use my time and mind in other and better things.

I am writing a formal email to Wilfer To thank him for the shipping and for the bass which is beautiful but also to give him some feedback, if he wants to accept my feedback would be good, but if he does not answer me or something i will not take it in a bad way, this is over for me.

I am very grateful to everyone, including the administrators or moderators for not closing or deleting this when many people wanted them to, thanks to this forum and this thread I had a voice to the world.

I think this will be my last post in this thread (maybe you will see me commenting on some other part of the forum asking questions or something like that)

Today I can sleep calmly

No hard feelings against anyone from me

Ps: Someone admin of the forum or this thread could send me a private message? I need to ask something.

@Tyronimo, just so you're aware, you or any TB member can send a private message directly to TB/DB admins (@Chris Fitzgerald or @TroyK) by clicking on the Inbox => New Private Message menu item on the top-right of the TB window (next to Alerts).

For example:

upload_2020-6-13_0-43-50.png

= = = = =

I'd note that we don't want to overwhelm the admins with private messages, but they do respond very nicely.

I hope to do the setup soon, the luthier comes to my house on Monday, I think he will probably take it to his workshop and as soon as I have it I will upload more photos! I'm very happy!
That sure is a beautiful bass. I am glad it got to you.
What is involved in the setup? Do sound posts have to be installed?

Happy for you.

I am shocked that a bass this valuable would be shipped across the world in a cardboard box. Did it come in something more substantial? A wood container?

We have all seen serious damage shipping basses. Necks broken off (Karr/Koussevitzky bass) smashed bodies etc. And this happens with heavy duty flight cases getting crushed.

So they actually shipped it in a cardboard box?

yes, apparently they always ship that way, it didn't come in anything else, just in the cardboard box, I was very scared that it would come broken or with any damage, but it really arrived in perfect condition, I am happy that it arrived safe and sound.

Look this video of unboxing from the same luthier:

It looks like it always does and has no problem with damage to the bass, Although I would have preferred a better packaging, but anyway, everything went well

Regards!

My two cents, please don't delete this thread. I can EASILY believe that there's fault on both sides. Regardless, future DBers should know about this incident. The fact that the purchaser ultimately received a beautiful bass does not excuse the many years of ignoring him.
As tough as I know the bass luthier business is, there is too much "fudging the cracks" from unethical providers and THEY need to be driven out and shut down so that honest providers can charge their fair and honest rates, which, obviously should be higher than it is now.

They shipped a double bass in a cardboard box? Now I’ve seen everything. Sounds like they went with the cheapest shipping option even remotely possible. My double bass came from England to Canada full setup (soundpost installed, strings, bridge, everything) in its case and in a wooden crate with a ton of padding.

also, why would a supposedly new instrument need a fingerboard to be dressed? It should come already set up.

What a sketchy luthier.

I think that this practice of sending the basses without their set up ready is more habitual than it seems, not only from this luthier, I have seen other luthiers who send the instruments without their set up ready, I think it is because this way each person can configure to their needs and preferences with a nearby luthier but I'm not sure if that's why it comes like this, or it can also be for security, the strings produce a lot of tension in the instrument, perhaps it is to minimize risks in transport, I'm assuming, maybe I'm wrong with boot.
