The Official Short Scale Bass Club -- Part 4

Wow, that is very very cool. I used to watch that show but I had no idea she played bass (if she really did; lots of TV shows have their actors pantomiming on instruments). I loved the beginning of the show, when the main cast is dancing to "Five O'Clock World" by the Vogues.
Pantomine is my guess. Her "singing" was pretty memorable though. Drew walked in the room and told her he hadn't heard sounds like that since the cantina band in Star Wars. :D

But the theme song, in all it's variations, was really good.

Made me laugh this AM, thought I'd share.

Wow! ... ... ... My one-year-old used '71 Competition Mustang was already starting to yellow even back then!!! ... ... the matching red headstock, like mine ... ...

I guess I never noticed this back in the day. ... ... an old re-run of the Drew Carey Show. Mimi played a Mustang. I forgot she ever played much less that she was a short scale fan.

Mustangs are pretty cool. My student's first year Mustang is in the luthier's queue. That means a few more months.... he does top drawer work, so no worries.

Were I to own a Mustang, I'd pick that one that carries the name of someone I never heard of before the model was introduced. 👿 :D

Me in '72, my 2nd year playing bass, with my college pop group, and with my first bass & short-scale!

HAY
Has anyone seen the new Shergold Telstar bass? It's new but the Telstar guitar has been out years. I'd like to take a swing at one, pretty low cost, Squier or G&L Tribute price range. 30" scale.
Anybody?

Looks like your guitarist was playing a Fender Coronado in Antiqua! :bassist:

I wish he had played that Coronado! For that matter, I wish I had played that Coronado!! He only borrowed it for the photo shoot that day, and I was really rushed between classes to be there at all. His usual guitar was a beautiful Gibson Cherry ES-335. I never found out why he borrowed the Coronado that day. I was still not too thrilled with Fender's Antiqua finishes back then as, I think, most will agree that it is an acquired taste. I'm still not enthused for it on some models.

As the vintage ones have aged, some have aged better than others. I like this variety - the newer versions leaning toward green are my least favorites.

Yes, there are various shades of Antigua finishes, some of which appeal to my red-green colorblindness more than others.

But my all time favorite finishes from that era are the Wildwood variants, dye injected into the trees before harvesting and building!

I've only ever seen one Wildwood in person in my life, a '68 Coronado II belonging to a friend of mine. It's (mostly) a shade that is not really to my taste. But if he was willing to sell it to me I wouldn't hesitate one second!

That '68 is much lighter weight than my 2013 Sunburst Coronado II reissue MIC.

Yes, I recently saw a Wildwood Coronado IV bass for sale (Reverb?) and it was very cool. The asking price justifiably related to its uniqueness, but it was outside my justifiable price-range. :)

So what happened with that age-old advice that says if you have a bad case of GAS, let 'er rip? :roflmao:

...yah.., no. I've never regretted buying/spending a certain amount of money for a bass and want to keep a perfect record. That (and part of that) I'm only a 'collector' by proxy (more as a player/designer/maker)... as an "early" collector - when such is relatively affordable.
