Hey Chris ,

Well things are moving forward , I am doing a lot of behind the scenes work to the downstairs production area . I finally dialed in the drum sander which needed to be done so I can sand the body blanks after they are glued up . Several little things like this have occupied some time . I will be gluing up the fingerboards this month and gluing tops on bodies too . I am finishing up some of the last straglers from the Texas orders and delivering a few stock basses .

By april the new batch will be in full swing and the progress should move quickly . This batch is going to be the most varied I think I have done . Should be a lot of fun !

I need to take some more pics of the stuff thats coming out of the shop .

Pete

All,

I have a gig with the Dallas Metropolitan Winds the first Sunday in April, with rehearsals the preceding Friday and Saturday. Would anyone in Dallas be willing to lend me a good 112 or 210 cabinet for the weekend? The Met Winds is locating a cabinet for me, but I am not sure what they will come up with and would like to have a good backup. I will be bringing my Markbass F1 or LMII, and will be playing my J5 and my Ergo EUB about equally during the gig. It will not be heavy duty for the speaker cabinet.

Also, for those of you in Dallas - I hope you will come to the show, which I believe will be Sunday evening at the Meyerson.

Will, if you need it, you're welcome to use my Epifani UL112. Should sound great with teh Markbass!
I have a gig Friday night but I'm using my 212, then a church gig Sunday morning but we go direct. So you should be in the clear.
Let me know your itinerary that weekend so we can coordinate a pick-up/drop-off. I live in Lewisville (a suburb north on I-35) and I work in Irving about 3 miles from the airport.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the update, Pete.

So, a June or early July completion date is likely?

Hi Will,
I have an Acme Low B2 that you're welcome to use. I'll PM you with my phone #.

Hi there,
I'm really interested in buying a Skjold 5 strings.
For those who own the different models, with the same wood combo althought the body shape is not the same, is there a sound difference between them?
Thanks a lot.
If you're talking about the 92 and offset 92 vs the LP, there's more than the body shape that's different... the pickup locations are also different, so they'll sound noticeably different. If you're talking about the 92 vs the offset 92, Pete might be the best to answer, but my guess is they'll sound identical to most people, and if someone could tell the difference, it'd be super subtle.

Thanks vic, I'll ask Pete about this.

Hello Georges ,

There are differences if you were to make identical basses in each body shape , but some of it can be pretty subtle . I build each bass according to the customers needs , so choosing any of the body styles is not going to be a problem . The LP A and the Whaleback design impart the most difference due to the added mass of the body . As Vic said the LP has completely diffrent pickup locations . But all this can be manipulated with various woods . I have had 92's that have far more lowend than than other body shapes with different woods . Pick a body shape and I can make it work for you .

I had a gig last Friday night, and I played my PSD 5 string Skjold. The axe sounded soooo good, that during a break, I called Pete to thank him for making this instrument for me. I used it in passive mode for the first set; just adjusting my right hand, and that bass just killed. Skjold's are just outstanding instruments, mine is so flexible, tonally, I can go from Rock to R&B, to jazz, just by turning a knob. I could go on and on. I got mine last June, and I am still finding new tones. And at 8 pounds, you shoulder is not hurting and you can just concentrate on the music. One last thing, and I will stop rambling; Pete puts his all into each instrument, and knows how to get the best out of them. From time to time I will call him to get a suggestion on settings. And he will say "Virgil with your combination of woods, try X" Of course, he nails the tone I was looking for. If any of you guys are on the fence about a Skjold, get off of it and order one for yourself, you will never regret it.
