The Official U.S. Peavey Cirrus Club

Eh, the whole thing is a joke. If someone on MTV played a Cirrus, it would have been nominated.
Actually, John Taylor of Duran Duran played Cirrus basses a lot, and he's a great bass player in a very MTV-played band (at least back when MTV was truly a music channel). There are others, as well, but I don't think that's it anyway.

No, I think the real reason is the same reason they sell so cheap especially on the used market, it's very simply the name on the headstock and the baggage so many still assign to that name. It's just simply not "fashionable" to be pumped about Peavey... sadly.

'cept back then he was playing other stuff like Kubicki. What's the flavor of the week playing? (not that I care :p) About all I see these days is Warwick with the metal bands, Ernie Ball for the pop/rock bands, and Fender for mostly rock.

I think folks only get that way if a post seems critical of the higher end instrument as a result of these comparisons... or maybe more to the point, the purchasers of them.

I mean, I still prefer the Sadowsky, and even by a fair margin... it plays better, sounds better, is lighter weight, yadda yadda yadda. Is it 4x better? That's the HIGHLY subjective part. To some, yes, to others, no, but to those that the answer is "yes", they just don't like to read a post that seems to say they were stupid for feeling that way and spending the extra money.

Not referring to any particular readers or posters (truly!), just sayin' that's how that stuff happens... seen it a zillion times here... often innocently too, which is the unfortunate part.

Vic, it's all water under the bridge for me. IMO, if a person who owns a cheaper bass suggests that the cheaper bass is even in the same ballpark as the boutique bass, a certain percentage of boutique owners will be insulted and come out swinging. I'm not interested in dealing with that issue anymore.:atoz:

All I can say is that I love my Cirrus. Whether it is better or not as nice as another bass is not an issue for me. I like it, and I am happy to recommend one to anybody. Others can take or ignore my advice as they see fit.:)

Ahh, I thought he'd been playing Cirri for a long time... maybe he has but not that far back then.

Well I'm in. I just pulled the trigger on a used Walnut Wenge topped Cirrus 5. I've wanted a Cirrus since I played Jason's at the first B3. Hopefully I'll have her in a few days.
Same configuration as mine, which I happen to love. :D I hope all goes well (transaction, shipping, etc.) . Be sure to post a report after you've gigged a few times.

Ya know, I own enough that I should know, but I thought it was a late 90's bass. The B-Quad and TL series came before it. Not sure when Duran Duran was on hiatus, but I'm pretty sure grunge would have wiped them off of MTV. Nonetheless, it looks like he's been playing them since the git go. For good reasons, of course!!! :)

+1

Thanks. :)

Yea it looks like Bass Player magazine's crap poll once again has omitted the Cirrus in all catagories once again. What a surprise. If I said it once I will say it again.Ignorance is bliss,I guess this will make the gear snobs and headstock whores happy though.:scowl::scowl:

Of course, they are going by "new" price, which puts the Cirrus into the botique category.

Pics from the seller. I'm stoked to get this one....

I dunno, going with the stock models, I doubt I've paid more than $1,400 for a stock Cirrus new. I don't recall what I paid for my Cirrus 4 with a Kahler, but it wasn't terrible. When you figure in the options on it, it's hard to find a bass with the same specs in the same price range.

I agree they are extremely high quality basses. I think the main reason they aren't considered "botique" is that Peavey is a large company/manufacturer. Brands such as Roscoe, Fodera, Sadowsky, Skjold, etc., come out of small shops. No slam at all on either, it's just perception based on the size of the company.
